Above the waterline this looks a gem. So, what lies below?
Possibly a great little cruiser.
I was having a drink with a well known sailor and Sydney to Hobart commentator when we were interrupted at the bar. This fellow overheard us talking and asked the question of my acquaintance.
Have you sailed?, to which he replied 'Bits and Pieces'
Your comment reminded me of this.
For someone that has allegedly given up drinking this seems somewhat incongruous .
Still haven't touched a dropped and am comfortable with that decision.
I have sniffed a few of my wife's glasses when she drinks a label that we used to have together.

The above are a couple of four dozen bottles given to me by Bob the Australian racing driver.
He drives an orange Ferrari with the number plate 'ENZO'
I have been giving them away as quickly as I can, but I am worried they may be off .
10 years prior to that vintage were the legendary 82's, I remember the Cabernets...barely...were you really there then...! the Wynn's John Riddoch and the Penfold's 707 of '82 going for $17.50, bought quite a few (on a teachers salary), the Penfolds marketing Dept hadn't yet thought of the Bin 407 but everything seemed to take off then as the 'Crazy '80's kicked in, and only over-priced auction purchases of Grange seemed to assuage the fevered minds.
A few years prior to this the auction market was redolent of such gems as '65 Tulloch Shiraz, numerous vintages of '50's and '60's Woodley's Treasure Chest wines, Maurice O'Shea Pinot Shiraz Mt Pleasant wines, '60's Kaiser Stuhl andLeo Buring Rieslings and also a very memorable Leo Buring Vintage Port from '71...lots of soft licorice over the top of deep, deep dark plum and berry fruits carried aloft on some sublimely smooth spirit...have rarely tasted a similar Australian spirit since...but a shout out to a friend Paul Tumminello's 1986 Vintage Port from Mudgee which had a similar ethereal lift.
Then shortly after came the amazing quality of the '86's, when else could you get Wynn's and Penfold's Koonunga Hill Shiraz for $4.50 a bottle. The 1980's what a great time!, forgot to mention the emergence of '82 Debortoli's Noble One, and one for the congnoscienti, the'82 Rosemount TrockenBerenAuslese Riesling, perhaps the wine I can most easily bring out from the palate memory from so many years ago...a little gem only ever in 375ml.
Sorry to put a damper on at the end but enjoy your memories while you can, I've got a few friends who have lived incredibly rich, deep and diverse lives, with a lot of healthy years ahead of them now, but sadly no memories of the lives they have lived.
