II wonder if there is an easy way to test if a hull layup is full epoxy rather than polyester apart from drilling a sample and taking it to a lab?

It's not pretty, so all the other doesn't matter.
Just my opinion, not wanting to offend anyone.

If the added on pilot house was removed to take it back to the study plan designed cabin shape, it would be as pretty as any yacht imho.

But this Van de Stadt Caribbean is in Carnarvon WA not Tasmanian and the inventory seems reasonably complete. Are you talking about this advertised VDS or another? Sorry maybe I am missing something.

Nice to see one that is not advertised as a mooring minder and in terrible condition. They were a great little boat with a large deck area for lounging around at anchor, a large cockpit and easy power via an outboard

That's a local boat {JB}, you might recognize the slips. Couple of years back a much nicer one sold with a mooring in Currambene Creek for $800!

Yes recognise the slip as where I met you :-).
This boat is just an example of an out of favour size in our current market and represents marvellous value for someone getting into the sport provided they have enough sense to wait for a good one. I remember them being $7000 new in 1970 when built at the SpitBridge marina where my dads was berthed and I learned to sail.
Most people just day sail around the harbour or protected Bays and occasionally stick their nose out the heads on nice days. This boat is perfect and very comfortable and safe for that. Conversely it is bad news for anyone that has a good one and might have upgraded a bit with new sails etcetera.
Contrast this with the price of catamarans at the moment which is absurd purely due to the fact that it is an in favour segment probably due to YouTube videos.

They are Few and far between on the marketplace , this sister ship to mine has the 75hp rather than the 55hp not sure the benefits other than lower revs at cruise speed. Very nice boat

I have a Brunton variable pitch prop on mine, I am lead to believe they offer better motor sailing performance in both speed and fuel economy, from my limited experience I would agree that with a light breeze and the sails up and the motor ticking over at low revs we are humming along nicely a 7+knts.

$345K... not cheap for a "near new" 25 year old boat although after visiting the boat show a couple of weeks a go I would prefer an old one to a new one.

Makes that $90k VDS look like damn good value

It's 2 years older than my BW 420 and originally had the same layout with a pullman style double to port and a head/shower in the forward bow. The extensive refit they mention was to reconfigure the bow to install the current V berth and add the heads to port aft of the forward cabin. Which also enabled room to install a bow thruster under the vberth.. It also had the hard dodger fitted and I enquired about the price for the dodger and was ball park figures of over 20k. I Also believe teak decks have been added and a number of other upgrades. So I guess the price is reflective to the work that's been carried out over the years.
I have considered putting mine on the market but can't justify finding a yacht comparable in the future and now that I have set it up how I want it I really dont want to go through all that work again!

Value - $7k Swanson 27 with diesel
