In the day sailer lineup there are two Tempests on Gumtree. Really good buys but how many were ever imported to Australia? Tempests were an Olympic class awhile back.

Tempests were built in Brookvale by Phil Rudder who also built the Nicholsen32s.

I like Black Jack. For $20k extra you will have brand new Sails and dodger. The clears look stuffed on Bells anyway. I used Strater ( not sure the spelling) Glass for my clears, you get perfect vision.

Hi Felixe,
I prefer Blackjack. 3 cabin in a 40 is too much and you'll appreciate the extra room (even though mine is technically a 3 cabin one is completely bare for storage)
Sails can be done incrementally don't forget!
Electronics is definitely relevant but B&G is pretty good kit. Add a jumbo or two at the mast and a PC with Expedition or Adrena and it'd be great fun!

Edit: You do need a auto helm on Blackjack.

There are a lot of production S&S designs made in large numbers in Europe and the USA. The S&S 34 as we know it, mainly the Swarbick Australian version is quite small in numbers in comparison. The Australian S&S34's are heavier versions of the English S&S34's which in turn are production versions of an earlier S&S racing design from the mid sixties. Edward Heath brought the S&S 34 to our attention when he won the 1969 Sydney Hobart with one of the early Aquafibre hulls from the molds.
There are also S&S 34 versions of the S&S 36 with a fractional rigs and runners that look different again! The hulls are much different.

Morning Bird is hull number 119, the last S&S34 built by Swarbrick Brothers. I am the 2nd owner.
I often give those advertising non S&S34s as one a hard time. One broker replied that my rant cost him $30 from Tachthub or whoever. I replied again so he got another $30 bill. If they are mistaken ok, but if it is deliberate stuff em.

Blackjack was really tired inside and out unfortunately. I have always gone for the project option but in this case I would prefer the one that has had some love. All the woodwork and upholstery inside was another big difference. Which is very hard to bring back if its been neglected. The 3 cabin version on bells breeze still had very sizeable berths so I was pleasantly surprised. At first I thought having a bigger master berth would be what I want but once I saw the sizes in the 3 cabin version, it seemed fine. And it also opens the option to use the 3rd cabin for dry storage. In the 2 cabin version the only benefit is a very deep cockpit storage locker where the 3rd cabin would be; which sounds good but isnt that easy to access if you have to pull everything out into the cockpit to find the stuff at the bottom. I can imagine dropping my car keys in there and swearing my head off about the prospect of getting them out again.

Also I looked at the keel bolts on Blackjack and they were heavily corroded and looked like they needed immediate replacement while Bells Breeze had them already re-done and looked re-engineered to a higher standard than original. Although I didn't have my calipers with me.

So who wants to buy a 25ft Crowther Cat??? Lots of love and money spend but still a bit to go.

Morning Star/ Breeze has just had a price drop. The SS34 Association web page has decent information, it's a shame the brokers don't take advantage of it!

That's a nice looking boat!!

Unfortunately there is some confusion with the names of the SS34's. Morning Breeze was Morning Star, still has the plate on the bragging board. I have a feeling this is the boat that was up on the hard for a long time near HG's H28. Should have bought it then!
