No Pup I couldn't afford a MR but that pic says it all, shape and design. Here you go Pup my first ever costume board made up on the hill by Nick Mount Woodgie under his house, the only way up was trail bike or scratch your car, Lacey's mates took me up there in the late 70's, so it's fair to say we go way back.

Oh I painted INXS on it later removed and painted Peter Garrett hand on the nose after the oils, Head Injury days.

Gotta love the oils even though I rolled my first car a XA St Wgn a week after I bought it on my L's, couple of months before I turned 17. 18yo mate sitting in as my teacher. Think top speed for L platers in 1988 was 82, headed to Lancelin doing about 110. Car had front wheel retreads that peeled off & pulled me off the roadside suddenly into a drop of like 8 foot nosedived/rolled about 4 times. Luckiliy all people & surfboards were ok as the tape deck continued playing "run by night" it all happened in slow motion & I can still recall the scene vividly today...very nice outline on that board mate : )

No raised deck on that one, it would have been 5.11 can't remember the other dims. Fixed thruster set up I recall.

Had an old windsurfer back in the 80s with a big ( not quite as extreme as these ) but still a big nose concave . Theory was to get it up and planing easier . Did seem to help ?.

They just look frikking dangerous to me, why the swallow nose its out of the water anyway, just a standard or rounded nose with the concave starting couple inches further down would have the same 'whatever' it does like the two near the middle.Good way to clear the break

Well worth the watch...

Dane still surfs fckn amazing on anything... Even on stuff he clearly is not into. I'd love to see him free surf in Comps as he's as good as anyone on tour and more entertaining than most...

Strange in a way, as Dane even points out, that they send him off with a quiver of boards not suited to his style of surfing, the neck beard being the exception... I woulda loved to see him out there swapping boards with maybe Devon Howard to see the different style on those waves/boards...

I hate to bring up the Wombat again but........... After a dismal surfing effort from me in 2018 (pretty sure I could count the number of sessions for the whole year on one hand), my New Years resolution is to get back in the water.

My current goto board is a Mark Richards Puffer 5 (5'10 x 34L). It's a fantastic board but I'm not a fantastic paddler. While I have no problems with the MR in small surf, when the surf gets good it's another story. The competition for waves increases, the sweep increases, the paddle back to the line up gets harder and I struggle to get waves.

So, I was looking for a new stick to help me get the stoke back, with the main criteria being to help me get more waves. With me being an ordinary surfer at best, performance was way down the list. I wanted a board that was easy to paddle, easy to pick up waves on and easy to surf.

I was looking at longboards and mid lengths. I fondled a Howard Special Mini in the shop some time back and I've wanted one ever since. So I was drooling on the North Coast Surfboards website, bemoaning the fact I couldn't afford a new Howard Special Mini when I happened across a Bear Fat Arse Wombat on their sale page. I used to own the Surftech version some years back and liked it a lot. But at 6'6 long, would it be enough board to fulfil my criteria?

I mulled it over for several weeks, looking at other options but kept going back to the Wombat. The other boards on the sale page disappeared until there was only the Wombat left, waiting patiently for me.

I couldn't resist any longer and after a quick dash down the coast last week, It's now safely in my garage. Will it be the one? Only time will tell.
