Update. I was getting some old style fcs fins for this board for cable for cooly surf.
Explained to him what happens on lefts and what i was thinking of doing.
He said

A epoxy boards are harder to surf backhand .
B the getting stuck up the top is common complaint backhand and in wind


C remedy. Play around with taping small weights on the nose. Get it dailed in and use the weight when and if needed.

D lots of surfers in epoxy are doing this for certain conditions.

E dont put anything on permanent. You want to be able to have the board as original thoae small clean days.

DC weights really WHY? sounds like the issue is in the design,I mean lets buy a new car and ask why the front drivers side wheel is taller?and the super salesman replies, it helps turn the car around left had corners, come on mate ffs.

its what they are trying. epoxy shortboards are still a bit of the unknown. in the right conditions they are amazing. in lesser condition maybe not. ill have a go at it

we want stuff in the forum yet mac is hell bent on revenge which I don't mind as long as it makes some kind of sense.
Fact is there is still a lot going on with epoxy boards . Different lay ups to get the right flex. Combination pu and eps planks . Carbon stringers . Dual carbon rails etc etc.

Lacey I'm debating this weight thing, in this day and age why are they required and if they are dose this not mean there is a fault in design and they are not ready for sale and still in the R&D mode? I don't know mate but if I had an issue with a new board and the shop told me to add weights on my board I'd asking for a refund. I've got hairdresser phone issues to deal with

I owned a longboard once and it nearly killed me, rails didn't engage and it felt like a cork, sold it as soon as I got home.

If I widen the base of my fin setup by 3mm will this give me more nose time?

I'm thinking of weights in the tail of my board equivalent to 5 besser blocks.
Or it might be easier just to lose 75kgs.

ok. I rang cable about the fins I was getting for the board. I mentioned what was going on. he said epoxy boards are generally tricker to surf backhand.

now I had mentioned these problems to dale before hand and was thinking of another 4 or 6 ozs layer of glass to weigh the board up. I like the board. he said nar, just experiment with some same weights at the front. it had been what they were doing when some of his epoxy tow in heavy glassed boards needing some more front weight.

back to cable , who is experimental junkie, he said him and others have used weights on epoxy boards sometimes. even mentioned amart sports having some flat weight thingies that was easy to tape on.

weights were for backhand. or windier days etc. but don't glass it because you will still want it to be super lite for those frontside days just made of lite boards.

the board is the lightest board ive every picked up , even at 6.6.

Yeah sorry I should have known my pee brain was way out with the weights on surfboards thing,I'm going to a gym supply shop and stocking up on washers

This thread has finally sorted my problems out, tomorrow I'll be a champ after attending a surfboard alignment shop.

pps the new reading glasses. you did read the bottom line

got this board from sdr a couple of weeks ago and finally got to surf it. .6.1 x 20 x 2 9/16. 33.9 lts . nomad with swallow tail.

I was stoked when I laid my greasy mites on it. exactly what I made envisaged in my mind.


although a litre down on what ive been getting probably the best wave catcher I have in that sized board. fast and balanced.

it was enough for me to ring sdr and order a dream board ive been wanting for not so good bigger fat point waves at the alley.

a 6.6 stretched out fishy hybrid . but only about 36 litres.

that kind of board you can only get as a custom, and be that I mean talking to the shaper

. talking to the counter guy in the shop that day and filling out a order form is not a true custom imo.

we seem to be on a roll with what I'm getting off steve.


ps . its not a keeper. no board of mine is. at best one year for shortboards. modern shortboards aren't keepers just by the fact the way they are made. they only are responsive for so long.

or I get bored first

however it will be the first board loaded into ute when I go surfing.

Well one surf one it had it doing what i envisaged.

Not much to go on but better than not going as i envisaged.
