On another note I took the stretched twin out for a paddle today. Report said 2-3ft but it was more like 1-2 and fading fast.
I can't really do a proper review as waves were pretty tiny and semi closing out. I did get a few that held up so I got to try out some fins at least.
Straight away the AMT's lacked drive and drifted when driving hard off the bottom. Not enough base and not enough overall area.
Salty Merchants uprights were way better, more drive but still nice and manoeuvrable. I could definitely live with this set up but still felt I could do with a little more drive. I feel this board will come out when the waves are good to epic so drive probably wouldn't be as big of an issue in those conditions but then the problem is the Salty's have a lot of flex. I really didn't like that in solid waves. (These fins were awesome in a performance fish/twinny I had up to about 3ft.)
I stopped off at my local shop on the way home to check out some fins and ended up grabbing a set of the Christenson Keels. They have similar overall area to the Salty's but a lot more base. They should provide that extra drive but aren't really that swept back like a lot of keels so hopefully they keep some of that pivot and manoeuvrability. They're also a lot stiffer which should suit larger waves.
We're heading west for a few days so hopefully I score some waves and get to put the board and new fins though their paces.
At the very least they look good
