Finally got some decent waves on the McNeill stretched twinny today. Head to OH sheet glass shifty beachy. Gary pretty much nailed the brief on this one, similar paddle, early entry and glide of a mid but nice and nimble off the tail. You can still cruise and carve from a more forward stance which I wasn't sure I'd be able to do with the amount of rocker. From that position it feels as if you're not only turning off the rail but also using the edge of the torus channel.
Off the tail it's very lively. With the tail being quite narrow the fins are set quite close together which on a couple turns kind of reminded me of my Duos which was surprising considering the keel fins I was using.
The 2 things that really stand out the most about this board are:
1. How smooth and well it goes rail to rail. I just couldn't keep still on the thing, bottom turn into a carve off the top straight back into another bottom turn and repeat, just did it seamlessly.
2. The control you have at speed. This really was next level.

Geez, sounds like you've found a winner!! What more could we ask of a board?

Were you thinking you might not be able to cruise and carve from a more forward stance because of too much or too little rocker? Or something about the rocker distribution?

Tell me about it. Ticks all the boxes so far.

I thought it might of had too much rocker and too little foam up front giving it that feeling of pushing water rather than gliding. I suppose at that length it is quite flat through the middle though.

Yes the control I felt at speed was really something else. On a couple towards the end of the session I just raced sections seeing how much speed I could get then try and lay it on rail and the thing just did exactly what I wanted, no hesitation, no tracking and with plenty of hold then seamlessly came out of the turn and onto the inside rail with out missing a beat. I think it's a combination of things but Gary might really be onto something with this Torus channel

Hey Toobz, I scrolled back and had another look at the photo's you posted of this board... It does have quite a lot of rocker doesn't it. Well, from a flatter mid perspective that is.
Can I ask: Is the board pretty wide? Like 21" ? or even a touch more? Also, are you a light weight guy?

Just don't answer if you don't want, however after a ride report like you posted I'm interested in a bit more detail is all.

Fair bit of area forward in the planshape, generous width and maybe a little juju from the torus channel... Oh, ok maybe a super talented and experienced shaper and test rider team might have something to do with it!

Now I should say, a forward stance in shortboard riding terms, far from cheater 5 or front 2/3 of the board etc. It just surprised me as the board has a very stretched shortboard look and feel to it rather than a traditional midlength design.
Wax marks show my back foot was as far up as between the GM logo and dimensions at times with a lot of time spent it seems with my foot planted over the logo.

For sure, I get that. Don't worry, I'm not sucking the Torus Kool Aid quite yet. Love my mids, always ready to learn from anywhere though.

Yeah I'm not rushing out to sell my entire quiver but it's definitely an interesting concept.

So I pretty much told him I wanted the paddle, early entry and glide of a mid but the ability to step back and jam it hard off the tail. Midlength glide but more shortboard performance. Gary has his ways and I don't think I was ever going to get a flat, wide nosed, boxy railed cruiser. The words "step up" were never uttered by me but he assured me it'll work in a variety of conditions, an all rounder he said with rails and rocker being described as "medium performance".

Is this one longer than your other Acids?

Yeah mate this one is 8"1, it's really a point and shoot board which will keep my wave count up. Surfed it a couple of times and it is exactly what I expected.... takes steeper drops easier than a long board, high speed trims, fast redirects and ..... gets in 2-3 metres further out than old mate on his 5'10 CI/JS/DHD.

It was the thick Lizzy with the bonzer set up which pushed me in this direction. The speed & drive through turns made my shorter acid gather dust. I find logs difficult to handle on 3ft beachies etc So this longer version is an attempt to get that feel of riding a log on a smaller lined up wave in bigger waves..... if that makes sense.

we have plenty of days up here on the open beachies where it's nice & clean but fairly straight so wct style turns are not really on the cards..... enter the acid. Also it gets pretty crowded!

in short, it's my longboard alternative for better waves however, I have not ridden it in small fat waves yet.... might be a revelation. I am only 70kg so the pulled in tail and foiled rails help me greatly to turn.

Yeah, i'm real keen to surf a Gato. There's this cool chick I met at the locals down here that has a real nice 8'er, need to do a board swap next time I see her but she's normally riding a Wegener Log... Great taste in boards though

I think I only ordered the Lovelace in Feb so that pretty good really... The last one though... Mann... was nearly 2 years... But that was waiting for him to come to Aus sooooo

Andreini is like 5 months though and a Skip Fry is a few years, if you can even get on the wait list... I'd love a Skip though.

Can someone please buy one of those midlength mote twins with channels & do a review? Pretty please.... they look epic
