This one looks interesting. not sure about the teak decks but looks like a cockpit layout similar to some
of the swans of the same era

That's an outstanding opportunity. All easy stuff. The downside is the size. That's a large and very powerful boat that would suit someone under 50 years old. I was checking on my mate's alloy Cole 43 yesterday which is dimensionally the same and they are big boats!

Always thought these were a pretty looking little yacht. Seems nicely proportioned including a decent size rig.

Certainly cheap enough.

Especially compared with this one although the fact that it has been for sale for five months indicates that most people realise this.

Nevertheless condition is everything although the expensive one doesn't look in that great a condition anyway.

And the 2024 boat of the year award goes to.....

yachthub.com/list/yachts-for-sale/used/sail-monohulls/wauquiez-pretorien-35/308356

Edit... how bad can osmosis be really? Could it run into the thousands ? I was told once a blister here and a blister there won't sink a boat.

Is there hidden danger below the waterline or is someone going to get the deal of the year, what do you reckon?

Lovely boats. There is one near my mooring. It's regularly sailed solo up and down the Eastern seaboard.

Classic boat. Needs a deck layout change and new-generation winches. Harken 46's abeam the steering wheel would transform this boat.

Would that have been an original mizzen mast? Can boats still perform as well as they should do by design with such major alterations ?

No. That is exactly the same as all the other Cole 43 sloops.

That's an exceptional buy! There are quite a few good buys about at the moment but that is certainly the best pick!

Strange choice of photos. Would this have been a sail drive version? No evidence of motor at unusual midships position.
What's the point of the photo of all the little wood blocks with bolts through them?
No word of sails or condition of rig.....

A trip to WA would be necessary to make sure you weren't just buying a hull and deck- or worse - possibly a rotted out deck and osmosis riddled hull. Looks like it has the WA style trailer sailer deck stepped folding mast.

Could be a bargain for someone.

Also a lesson. Don't leave your run too late.

There are quite a few Mark 1's with the engine in the rear position with saildrives. The rig is the standard mark 1 and they are usually deck stepped. This boat has had a massive drop in price and it came on the market fairly cheap in the first place and I can not recall the reason. Nice interior for an SS34. Any osmosis would be long gone. I have never heard of an SS34 with soggy decks.

The other boat advertised is from Paul Kennedy. He is the shipwright who runs the local slipway. I have known him for about 35 years. The Jarkan 925 is a locally built boat and that seems to be an excellent buy.

I just showed my wife this ad. She knows Paul very well too and she reckons it's crazy cheap!

If I remember correctly, the main issue is the engine is a non runner. How stuffed it is I don't know.

The ss34 had no engine in it. It was removed well over a year ago. There was a brand new replacement engine bought for it but never fitted . That new engine was for sale and all the hardware on the boat is for sale ,, some items have been sold and removed.

He really needs to advertise more widely.
Surely there is someone with access to a shed in the family to whom this would be a total god send at eight times the price. Rig, diesel, furler, lead keel, sail drive.... included!!

The unfortunate fact of life probably is that most younger people who might give this a go now live in dog boxes in ridiculously over the populated cities or at best a housing development house on a postage stamp sized block of land with no room for a shed. He only needs one though.

Yes . Have to be under 50,with backup + own a proper enclosed shed,so time to put it all together properly .
Also, have to be careful of moving costs,as crane/low loaders need to be assessed on hourly rate !

O. Modern production pocket rocket with decent enough reputation and excellent price.

Tempting
