I'd be dubious about the quality of the invisible work, given the roughness of the visible work. And having gone from a windward pilot berth to the bilgewater a few times and given the significant number of injuries that are caused by people being tossed around down below I'd be very concerned about the amount of sharp-edged equipment like bilge pumps that one could be thrown into.

A good quarter berth is what it needs. That engine box is going to be a real pain when some serious maintenance is required. I can completely disassemble mine like it is at the moment and have terrific access.

I could not believe that write-up! Retired with an autopilot failure! Tiller steered SS34 without an Aries/Fleming/Monitor. They could have even sailed the rest of the way with a nice piece of shock cord!
That hard top needs to go it's an eyesore. The interior is not all that bad if you ignore the rough fibreglass work. Some lengths of Bunnings garden Merbau strips varnished would add to the ambience. There is plenty of room for a nice quarter berth.

My thoughts exactly on not using a Windvane!!
And yes, it could have a better looking dodger.
Add some nice timber to the interior and it would transform the boat.
A huge amount of money has been spent, for someone to step on and go circumnavigating..
A bargain!!

Might be a bargain for the right person but I wouldn't be surprised if it goes quite cheaply although we will probably never know.
A lot of those additions on the outside like the Dodger and the winch platforms and other things would result in a total eyesore finish if removed.
Presume it wasn't Golden Globe race that is referred to as it doesn't have a full keel yet it does have full modern instruments and a couple of auto pilots but no wind vane.
Wife would love the toilet seat although amateurs would like the instructions written all around the head. Think the seller would be well advised to spend 50 bucks and put a toilet seat on it. I'm a bit head centric ATM having just installed an electric one on my TS :).

I even removed the instrument coaming off mine. Replaced it with a solar panel. The view from my seated position behind the wheel ahead now is outstanding. Anyone wanting an SS34 instrument coaming and hatch cover there is one just lying around in my yard!

Anybody have any experience/opinion on a centreboarder setup like this? bit of a weird setup but I like the shallow draft and dry out ability.

I have a RL 34 at the moment so I'm well versed in the trial and tribulations of a centreboard boat.

Something like this would be a step up in size and comfort to encourage the wife to come along.

It appears the centreboard pivots forward, or is it a dagger board boat? I wouldn't like to explore shoal waters with a forward pivoting centreboard.

Nor fish pots or other lines. At least it doesn't extend forward towards the bottom like another design I have seen.

To me it looks like a dagger board that raises vertically, you can see what looks like its vertical trunk in some of the photos.

Also would two smaller rudders have the same effectiveness as one larger rudder?

Swing forward wouldn't present a problem because you wouldn't sail it half up would you? Also, with those chines you'd think she'd be pretty good at tracking in a straight line even without the board down?

All the way up it wouldn't foul, all the way down it's a straight board, so less problematic than any fixed keel with a bulb.

Looks like 2 short rudders is a compromise to get it to sit square on the bottom instead of having 2 keels. At least if she's heeled hard over you'd have one of the rudders dead under the boat.

One of the great positives of centreboard boats is you can change the centre of effort with different sail combinations. By only sailing with it up or down you limit the boats ability.

My experience with centre boards and dagger board is limited to dingys, and the vision of a VJ that was sailed hard onto a beach and near split the poor little boat down the middle is hard to unsee. On the other hand with herons and latter Hartleys the ability to change trim with board or run up a beach without fear was a joy, of course bigger boats have more complex operations, hydraulic, multiple block configuration & heavy ballasted boards, so the ability to take the bottom maybe limited on comparison

Nice boat. Good value if you are good with a varnish scraper. Nothing there that the average bloke can not do.

Beauty! Unfortunately it is "a bit" above my budget. ??

It is a tad on the high side, finance is available for 17k a week

I love those classic lines, so pretty.

Aside from its beauty and quality its quite interesting as the hull is made from 2205 Stainless Steel

This very special "in-build" sailing yacht is a true world cruiser, constructed entirely from Duplex Stainless-Steel (SAF 2205- Duplex).

The keel on my boat is 2205SS, trying to get paint or fairing compound to stick to it is not easy, the paint job on this one look incredibly and the hull looks very fair from what you can see.

So I thought it qualified as an interesting boat for sale. Its also interesting as she is not complete but now for sale, what has happened behind the scenes I wonder.

Pretty standard set up for Europe high tides. Long shallow ballasted keel with "lightweight " dagger board. Can be sailed with board up, but poor windward performance in that mode. However, ad talks about fully ballasted centreboard and photos seem to confirm that. Ask the advertiser and tell us afterwards.

I'm not keen on saildrives but otherwise that's a lovely boat and well priced. Not many SS34s with that nice a teak interior.

Actually I kind of like them. Plenty of yachties about that would be better off with one of these! One like that motored past the moorings one day and there is just the motor cutter version of one here on a mooring.

So just for fun, what are we talking about in unskilled labour here?

1. A month solid to strip the teak, fill and sand and kiwi-grip it - working full-time, plus some. And it's gotta be somewhere dry.
2. Gonna want a new standing rig yeah? 10K for parts - or less?
3. Engine - what's that worth for a recon fitted?
4. You've stripped all the deck-gear off and there's bound to be some bits you want to replace instead of putting back.. budget? All new running rigging surely?

I'm guessing those bilge keels are to provide leeway balance, given that the sail plan is far forward. Great boat if you love fishing and you live in a cool place where a wheelhouse is a necessity.
