It's not the size of the boat rather the setup determines whether or not it's good for single handing.
That Mottle is a great buy and I regularly single hand mine.

That Mottle is a good buy. Will need a furler conversion though for an old bloke to singlehand. It's obviously been a serious racer at some time with the mainsail reefing lines back to the rear of the cabin. The two jib feeder gadgets hanging off the headsail foil there for the foredeck crew to assist with headsail changes. The water stained timber work will never come back though but that's OK. Lot of boat for 15 grand!

yeah looking at the photos it probably also needs;
- a re-rig
- a Dodger
- ideally mainsheet moved to the top of the aft cabin

Looking at $10k minimum!!

The Walker H28 ketch is a lovely boat, but the mizzen gets in the way of "single- handing", especially when you have passengers sitting in the forward part of the cockpit. A lot have had the mizzen removed, but for me I agree with old man L. F. Herreshoff, who said if you change his design it would spoil the boat. A ketch also has a lot more strings to look after.

I single hand a ketch all the time, the mizzen doesn't have to be set or the main for that matter, does become a hand full when you set a 2nd head sail and a mizzen stay sail tho

Why would you need a dodger? Two Mottle 33s here and the first thing I would do if I owned one would be to toss the dodger.

Could it possibly be that some people like and prefer to have them? Just a thought.

I sold my VDS 34 for $300 after buying it for $35k and storing it in the yard in Maryborough for 7 years @ $250/month. About $50k loss.

The upkeep on a steel yacht is just too intense i.e. daily.

I'm certainly not going to buy a steel yacht but this one has one of the best underwater shapes I have ever seen on a steel yacht. The interior is in all solid teak. The boat is chock full of quality stuff, the clock and barometer etc would be worth heaps. Thought about buying it a few weeks ago for the mooring and stripping the boat for all the goodies but it would be a waste of a good interior. I would like the three blade feathering prop. I already have the Aries off her. Seems to be attracting a lot of attention on eBay. The new owner is keeping the mooring for his new boat.
