The upkeep on a steel yacht is just too intense i.e. daily.
Utter crap!!!
Mate, if the boat is right to start with, i.e. the protective coating (paint) has been done correctly and you attend to any damage to that coating when it happens, yeah sure, the boat could last 100 years, e.g. the James Craig has been restored and is doing the job these days.
However if a steel yacht is let go and not correctly maintained, you may never get ahead of it.
How long do you believe the paint system on a steel vessel is good for? I reckon 10 to 15 years about pulls it up.
So you have a steel yacht that is the apple of your eye. I did not say that steel yachts are no good. It is just another boat building material.
There is no need to get defensive or offensive about it. There are more tonnes of steel floating around the world I am sure than any other material except maybe plastic.
So from my experience in the Navy working on steel ships and from my experience of having owned a steel yacht I will rephrase my above comment to this:- I am not going to spend the time and effort required to maintain a steel yacht in pristine condition.
Are you happy now Lazzz??
