that is a missleading statement. If the engine is in good nick and there has been and there is OIL in it and no rust eats it away a 10 year old engine with 100 hours on it is still a brand new engine. Metal does not go bad like food in your refrigerator.

Nup. That 10 year old engine with 100 hours is likely to have suffered from corrosion.

and most of us running 40 year old engines in our yacht without any problems...if your engne corrodes away in 10 years, how long will your hull last. Made in India or China, is it?

I would much prefer a 5 year old motor with 1000 hours on it then a 10 year old with 100. Like most things on boats they last longer being used.

You are right on the mark there. Use it or lose it.

yes metal does go bad . without regular oil changes an engine will be eaten away by a reaction in the oil . change the oil on time not hours use !!

under normal circumstances it shouldn't without use, but lets just agree to disagree...

Looking forward to seeing this one arrive here next week. First boat for a non sailor! I'm hoping the mooring is not too close to mine. It was on my saved list for that lottery win too, not many tiller steered Farr's about.

This is an interesting boat that is moored near me. English yacht that has circumnavigated twice, Carvel planked but not sure with what, Beech decks that are looking sad! Timber mast and boom. Lots of teak inside and some rot around the cockpit. Yanmar diesel. All easy stuff to fix. Good mooring in a great spot. Boat and mooring will go cheap. Lots of inquiries just need someone to snap up this waterfront accommodation.

Looks good but there must be a limited market for centreboard boats I presume.

I have no idea Ramona, I haven't had any experience with them, but I imagine someone wanting to club race could be more the target market. Concept is good and handy, and I've seen plenty of Euro designed boats online that feature swing keels to add flexibility to the function of the boat. I wonder how much weight would be in this particular centre board, any idea? There was another one of these Adams 13 Centre board designs around Kettering a while back (Called Sailmaker). I spoke to someone who had raced on it when it was based in the north of Tas. I think he said that they pulled the Centre board up on downwind runs to reduce drag.

There are a lot of the Adams 13 as center boards and sailed very well.
The problem is they have very little room being so narrow so would not really suit cruising. Also originally they had runners.
There was an Adams 8 where they tried with a center board but it went like a pig.

I believe "Sailmaker" came from Cairns and belonged to a sail maker.

Joe designed the Adams 13 for himself. "Friday" is not an original A 13 design which had transom hung retractable rudders.

She is beautifully put together though and the price is good for a yacht of that size and standard IMHO.

That's interesting, I always wondered about the name. Not sure where it is now though? it was based here in Kettering and I know that Dennis sold it around the time we bought our boat, so that's going on 20 months back.

Yes I agree with your assessment, it will be a good buy for someone. It's on the hard now and under offer I heard.

Here is an interesting boat.

Toccata was discussed on this forum quite a bit in 2015.

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Sailing/General/Jarkan-39-How-much-is-it-worth?page=1

She is on the market again in Paynesville.

yachthub.com/list/yachts-for-sale/used/sail-monohulls/jarkan-39/226320

Apparently "was designed by John King for the owner of Jarkan yachts, Mr Kanga Birtles to compete in the 1987 Melbourne to Osaka two handed yacht race, but didn't make it on time."

Since 2015 this boat has undergone a huge Lydia style refit including new mast, boom, rudder etc. The extent of the refit suggests Toccata may have needed quite a bit more work than our 2015 discussion suggested.

I wonder what would be needed to finally upgrade her for the next M2O ?

While I have that vessel in my saved list I would prefer to spend 1/4 of that on a boat that actually did the race.

Bruce sounds like a cranky old bloke but I reckon by the time he gets down your way that is what she will sell for.

The Ben Lexcen 37 in Tasmania appeals too!

I must be getting old - growing up is another matter - I raced against the Lexen a quarter of a century ago, It usually beat us (Holland 25) around the course... until (from memory) they decided that she drew too much and shortened the keel. After that the Holland was generally faster around the course.

The Young 88 on the right of the first picture was built in Tassie, I sailed a few races on her with great success. I wondered where she'd ended up. beautifully built, and comfortably fitted out.

As far as I know she's sold. A mate brought her down from Sydney probably about 10 years ago, he did an amazing job refitting her, there's not much of the original boat left! She sails beautifully, and was competitive with a well sailed Dubios 1 tonner, and a very competitive Northshore 38 on her day. Tender upwind in fresh breeze, as the centreboard was unballasted, very quick off the wind.

I think you'd have to look at her as a really long 35'er instead of a skinny 45(odd)'er. That was Joe Adams' thoughts behind the concept I believe.

One of the sweetest 24 footers you'll ever find!!
Built to last by my dad, although sold before he launched her.
Great little weekender and coastal racer
Anyone who is a racer of an older vintage might remember 'Mozzie' and 'Crimper' that were gun JOG boats in their day and flush deck. Well this boat is the same hull with a cabin based around the Northshore 27!

Interesting. Don't bother trying to enter Greenwell Point or a lot of other ports.

Nice set up and that's an impressive nav station.

I've been watching that one for a while. There's a video of the RTW race on board at
