I would think the hull is would have bad osmosis, requiring stripping right back.. That would be a weeks work for 2 guys.. Costly getting a contractor to do, but you still would be way infront..

No osmosis. The hull is excellent. I wanted him to just use the local slip for a couple of days. He has found a broken bottle screw on the main shrouds that was wrapped and has crevice corrosion that led to the failure.

As a matter of interest is the Corsair Similar in any way to a Wayfarer Dinghy?
would it be suitable as a serious cruising dinghy?

The Corsair is a bit longer at 16 feet. Designed by Alan Payne and designed for construction in fibreglass only. The Wayfarer was originally a hard chine plywood boat just a bigger version of an Enterprise [from a different designer]. We had lots of Enterprises in Australia but very few Wayfarers. At the time they were about the only dinghy designed for a crew of three apart from the light weight sharpie. The armed forces selected the Corsair to replace the Bosun dinghy in about 1970 because they are just about bullet proof and pleasant to sail. The Bosun dinghy was basically a round bilge version of a Wayfarer built very heavily in fibreglass by apprentices at the navy dockyard in Sydney.
The Corsair has very comfortable seating but as far as cruising goes I would think it would be the same as a stock Wayfarer. The Wayfarers that did ocean crossings where highly modified.

be an excellent Hobart two handed and was also measured for IMS back then so has proof of stability
was also the fastest of the currawongs even when new and then we pulled heaps of weight out of the deck gear and rig.
I can remember pulling the mast base out was a prick of a job as it is put in before the furniture, had it re galvanised but that would need re visiting.

Interesting comment, Lydia. I'd be very keen to hear why you'd choose the Currawong over your S&S 30.

Also, I'm going to have to pull the ring frame out of Kinora at some stage (you advised me to do it when we re-rigged the boat immediately after purchase, should have listened). Any tips? Maybe a question for another thread ...

If you have some spare time, here is a great story from Seacraft clippings about a Corsair trip from Sydney, and ending in Cairns.
Published in 1973, by a sailmaker with a bit of adventure about him...

The Corsair is a good boat, but has much less freeboard than a Wayfarer and can take water over the lee gunwale surprisingly easily. It also tends to float low when filled. Canberra YC put bulkheads to make sure the whole foredeck (rather than just part of it) provided buoyancy but that meant they floated stern-down when capsized. For a cruising dinghy they'd be much better (IMHO) with bouyancy bags or bouyant storage, well distributed fore and aft.

They're still a good boat and about the only thing of their type in Oz. I got two of them for our club and they're hard to kill and easy to fix.
