G'day mate, long time no see. Was thinking today was going to be dissapointing, and good call by the look of it.
Went to the gym instead, and got some work done. Was kind of hoping that tomorrow would be worth the trip.
Have to pick something up from the "Old Fella's" place anyway, so see you there.

There should be enough water after about 1pm Walshie so I'm aiming to be there around then. I love it how Darren still calls the pub the 'Gym'.

No worries - my fault. I went out wide as I was determined not to hit the rocks!!
Stayed out as long as I could cause I new my xmas holidays were coming to an end!!!

Good morning,
I'm new to the forum and have been pointed in your direction (sandstone seabreazers) after enquiring about windsurfing venues north of Brisbane. I am keen to do more windsurfing and to meet more windsurfers. Look forward to meeting some of you over the next couple of months. Whereabouts in Sandstone Point do you sail from? What are the best wind directions and tide conditions for sailing?

We sail sandstone - pebble beach on SE winds hour or so either side of high tide. Depends on your fin depth
On low tide in SE we can sail off South esplanade bongaree
Also sail off Phillip st Beechmere high tide

On NE we sail out of turners camp (turners camp rd) Northside of bridge on mainland - sail all tides

Keep an eye on this thread for opportunities.

What level of sailoring do you do?
How often do you want to get out?

Hi CedarDell, Like Jeff says we've got a few fun places to sail around here.

Look for the following locations in google maps:
Oxley Place, Sandstone Point - South to East wind and anything higher than 1.5m on the Brisbane bar with a 50cm+ fin
Turner's Camp Road, Ningi - ENE to NNW wind and all tides but definitely flatter on the low tides into the mouth of Ningi Creek
South Esplanade, Bongaree - SE to SW wind, gets rough in SW and sketchy to get back to beach if more E, I haven't sailed here much but I'm pretty sure it's like Jeff says and is best on the last of the ebb into the low tide
Phillip Street, Beachmere - NE to SW wind, best sailed cross shore and offshore because it's a bit exposed and gets little breaking waves in any wind from the east. Any tide higher than 1.5m on the Brisbane bar with a 50cm+ fin is best, however if you don't mind walking with your gear it can be sailed at much lower tides further out

There are a couple of other places but Oxley Place and Turner's Camp will be best for you to get back into it. You might wish to think about a couple of bigger sails though, a lot of our sailing is in 13 to 18 knots of wind so we are using sails from 6m to 8.5m generally and the light wind guys are using 9.5m sails on light wind boards when it really drops off. I just jump on my windsup when it's like that.

Again like Jeff says, keep an eye on the wind and this thread, one of us usually chucks something on here if we're sailing. These northerlies coming up will have us at Turner's on the low afternoon tides if there's enough wind.

I definitely think beachmere will be the go before lunch with the big high tide. I reckon the tide will carry too much weed at turners until late arvo.. The outgoing should make some awesome ramps at beachmere and l am keen to try it on the low for flat water runs toward bribie.. Hopefully l can lure someone to head across to the sandbanks 1 mile west of south tip bribie. I sussed it out by dingy at easter low lows and will make a resting spot with flat deep water to the south and wind funnelling out the passage. Offshore but safe sailing if we stay close to or sail over or windward side of the mile long firm sandy bank. Bring a camel pack if u r keen. It will be best toward late arvo low with safety in numbers.

The wind hasn't come in here yet and with the tide going out I reckon we'll have limited time on the water at Beachmere now so I'll probably go back to plan B and sail Turner's later on too.

Went to Phillip Street to say g'day to JV Jonno and had no intention of sailing, it was 5kn with 10kn gusts. We stood there and watched the wind line steamroll across the bay so I slipped back home to grab a board while Jonno rigged up. Genuine 20kn day with some good size bay swells out the back. Jonno was being a delinquent on his wave board and 6.2m sail jumping off anything he could run into whilst I was using the Magic and a little overpowered on a 7m sail and trying hard to keep it on the water more than in the air. Only a couple of jellies and the weed washed in with the wind so not far off perfect conditions.



I started to run out of water by 2:30 and didn't want to have to leg it too far across the beach with my board so I packed up whilst Jonno had a bit of "pandanus time" and recharged with a healthy mix of soft drink and service station hotbox nasties. When I left he was hooking up the slalom board to hit the banks on the low tide. The wind had swung more north so the waves had calmed down a bit.



It's gusting pretty hard here now so I hope you blokes are getting a good sail in at Turner's.

That was a good sail. The 6.2 ended up being perfect. The wind switched on a bit more again after you guy's left.
Constant 20, sometimes 25 knts. The water flattened right out for great blasting along the oyster bank.
Beautiful. Still not fit though.
