Is this seriously a chance of preventing the comp being held there at that time?

If constructions start at the end of the year... yes.

Is anyone able to confirm yet (or anytime soon)?

You'll have to ask the Fed Government. Apparently the WA government is waiting to see if there is some mulla for this project as part of the Infrastructure Australia investments.

But given the Rudd governments track record of actually getting projects out the door I wouldn't hold my breath (any remember the national broadband network, 2020 summit etc. etc.)... so this could be a none issue.

Is there a back-up option nearby (with similar waves), or would it be held at the main spots in town?

Point Moore has two breaks... one great for jumping the other great for riding waves. It's not as good as Spot X but in my opinion the rigging is a million miles better.

There is another spot I can think of but I think I'd get lynched if I even mention the name here.

Is this a post that contains too many questions starting with the word "is"?

I guess time to put it to rest... and wait for someone official to step in and take control.

the format for the nationals is man on man double elim. if you want to have some other format (mambo style ect) do so and call it something else, not the national titles.

Agreed.

Hey Dan

Although Gnaraloo is one of the best places on the planet, it's only good if there's a decent swell. Nothing worse than sitting around in Gnaraloo with 45-50+ degree heat in the middle of summer with no shelter and no waves. Unfortunately it's really only Sept - Nov where you're pretty much guaranteed to get waves. That an late March April.Rest of the season is very fickle. Swell for a day or maybe two in amoungst weeks of nothing.

So how about Nats in March/April or Sept/Oct at Gnarloo then?

Im in, lock in those dates!!!
seriously though, if spot xx has parking issues and theyre talking about building a wharf/jetty isnt that area and most of the road in going to be consumed by the constuction company (trucks/materials ect)? is this going to be an issue??

Point Moore is sh1t. I would hope the nationals would not be wasted on that place.

Great to have a good vibe happening here , everyone sounds exited.

All your questions will be answered from this forum.
So keep Firering away.

A few people have inquired about supporting it all ready which is great.
IF YOU HAVE CONTACTS ,its time to put it to them to support

GERALDTON NATIONAL WAVESAILING TILES
OAKAGEE SPOT X SUMMER NATS 2010.

Other world class locations for you to sail include Coros,South Coros,SunSet, the Gates of Hell. St Georges beach park (All locations provide windsurfing for all levels of expertise in your travelling group).

Spot x collects the most consistant wind and wave swell over the time framed planed.
The place varries in quality with surges of ground swell and tidal movement ,but always provides something fun for all wave sailers on any given day they venture up there on a reliable seabreeze. FOREHAND AND BACK HAND WAVE RIDING FROM OUT THE BACK OVER 500M WITH VERY LITTLE CHOP. CROSSSHORE TO CROSS OFF SHORE WINDS as the day progresses. There is channel all the way on the out side to avoid jumping ,but if your keen 5 back loops on the one run is achieviable.
or go 30foot jumps ?

The waters like a hot bath and stay smooth dispite the wind strenght. Shore break is minimal.

Good venue for extended heats and heaps of sailing and fun.

It'll be another five years minimum before they even get to work at oakajee.

It wont happen in a year, the environmental studies ran out this year and have to be done again. So there's a year at least.

This year they brought up a drilling rig from Perth only to have the strength of the granite reef destroy the core bits used for drilling.

The reef is that hard that core bits wouldnt dent it.

Big Call saying the point is ****, how much time have you had out there, days or weeks or like us months out there??

i wouldn't say that Point Moore is ****, if you dont like sailing MAst High top to bottom madness that hits a reef ledge 40ft deep thats your deal.
Especially when coro's is like chest high you can get easy mast high at the gates.
And unlike coro's you can easily die at the gates, i know i got held down so deep i didnt know which way was up. eventually after breathing in heaps of water and starting to drown i got back up, only to have my mate watching from above the whole time, to say welcome to hells gates mate.

Its like everywhere it has **** days and goods days, but when the point is on, noone except a few hardcores sail it, cause its ****ing gnarly and if you **** up you have the potential of being swept not only out to see but the current will take you to the abroholos islands miles out to sea.

ive sailed bells and all along the Great ocean road and lots of those so called killer spots were crap, but like everywhere on its day its on.

Same goes for robe, 20 trips to get maybe 1 good day and they have had it there in 94 (got good sailing) and 04 (total **** 1ft sailing). your not gonna beat the varied locations in gero but in the surrounding areas that i'm never gonna mention on here.

I'd probably second the comments about Point Moore... it's a place were things can quickly go wrong in a big swell. A mate of mine went for a dive at Hells Gate when it was flat a couple of years back. He said it was like a grave yard of shredded and bend windsurf gear.

I guess people thing the Point is not as good because it's a fairly short wave in comparison to some of the other spots.

If spot x picks up the best swell and is the
only real bearaway in gero ( barring the secret spots)
, why would you need to move it anywhere?

Just to make a note on the keeping it local. Would you guys make an exception for a couple of the Kiwi boys (2 youth) to come over for the event. We wanted to come this year but it was a bit hard to plan. The level is much higher over there and would be cool to be part of one of your serious events.

I think you should be allowed (although not my final call).

We've had Kiwi's turn up before. And apart from the rare cry-baby (from the Aussie crew) who embarrassed the Aussie contingent by complaining after losing to them, generally they were very welcome and helped boost the numbers.

Apart from anything else, I believe that we're allowed to enter your nationals so it should be the same in return.

Maybe the rules should state: if you can enter Australia without a visa, and gain access to unemployment benefits and health care, then you should be allowed to sail in the comp.

He says depending on the outcome of funding proposals, and a feasibility study, construction could.

4 billion ..........and federal government to provide 680 million. 2013 finish dream on .Get a location suitible first would be a start .

With out getting any politics involved ............... THIS LOCATION IS NOT a political objective for this venue being picked.

As i have been told
IT will not effect the location for holding an event in 2010
