Check on YouTube gofoil at Waikiki super short boards and real tight turns. Got me thinking about getting a mate to build me a short fat foiling Sup. Around 610x 30 or so. What do you think of the fanatic sky foil Sup. Liking the way that they and sunova are making efforts to get the foil mount position correct seems crazy that many fool boards need wedges or whatever to get them lined up right.

A super quick from from a 8km Downwinder we did yesterday.

The forecast was looking pretty good, but unfortunately went east and light once we started. A lot of work and only 1-1.5km at a time glides, but still plenty of fun.

Enjoy,

Yesterday we rode St Kilda Pier.

I had planned of crossing from Altona to St Kilda, but the wind was quite dodgy, shifty and very gusty. So instead opted for some DW training off the St Kilda Pier. Port Phillip Bay generates some amazing chops and this was actually tones of fun (i've had much worse actual down winders).

Warning this video is super long (again), but I know heaps of crew are asking lots of questions on DW'ing, so thought seeing 5 complete runs start to finish might be interesting to some (or boring to others), you choose.

Enjoy,

Thats helpful. Ta.
Do you just paddle back out?
This sort of "DWing" is logistically more doable for me.

Hey Mwstard,

Cool thx.

Yes, just paddle back out. In a spot like this you can move behind the break wall and simply paddle back out. It actually very difficult at all (except when the massive squalls came through). And you get plenty of good runs in.

And yes, a good option to practice and get your DW buzz without car drops and pickups.

Super fun.

Nice water and wish I leave nearby as it would be one of the best place to learn how to foil.

Very, very interesting video to show the trajectories of a foil on a non-breaking wave, higher than one would think...

Thanks JB. 40 mph winds most of the week so will get on it.
All these videos are really helpful. Knowing what is theoretically possible, helps give us confidence to go exploring and trying things out.
That Newcastle video is definitely another example of that. Maps, tide tables and swell charts out. The adventure is on.

Great video JB! Close to home so look forward to trying one day. A few questions. Were you using XL wing? Was it a southerly wind and what knots? Did you paddle back out each time in the protection of the marina? How did you attach GoPro to paddle? Thanks and also for you time on the phone over the bolt stuck in the mast.

Thx Southby,

I was using the XXL wing.

Wind was gusty WNW - SSW anywhere from 15 - 39kn (I think were the readings).

Yes, simply paddled back out each lap in the lee of the break wall (it actually wasn't that difficult).

Using the handle bar GoPro mount up near the "T - Piece" of my paddle - https://shop.gopro.com/APAC/mounts/handlebar-seatpost-pole-mount/AGTSM-001.html (this is the newer version, but much the same concept. Stores may still have the duel screw system on their shevles which is what I used).

All good, hope all is clean and fully functioning now for you.

Here's a little edit/mashup I did from a slow windless DW'er on Friday. It is done up for instagram, so weird angle. But a bit of fun trying to do a funky edit. Bloody hard work on this run. Wind was so light and bumps dead onshore, but always plenty of fun.

Enjoy,

Yes, you can surf with a 10' inflatable... You just have to be careful to keep its nose out of the water to avoid the "suction cup" effect when it touches the water.
