Can completely see the value of them....but prefer the feel of no straps myself...

And I guess boots can be a royal pain with straps in these northen waters outside of summer...

The new Sunovas have very cleverly shaped the bottom of the board with an angled section so your foil sits flat with the deck but the board still has tail rocker. Agree boards are shrinking , 7-6 used to be so short now it's consider too long. I foil with Marcus from Sunova every week so I get try a lot of his boards and some are so tiny 5-4 ,5-10 ect but amazingly even though some are 10 litres or more under my weight I can still paddle and catch waves on them. The board only sinks so far then stops , so basically now you only need 10 or so litres more than your weight and you can even go super narrow like 26 or 7 and you are fine. The foil is your centre board like on a sailing boat. It's actually easier to balance on a foil board with less foam , boards with a lot of excess foam raise your centre of gravity and make it more tippy.

How clean were those dock starts and re docking, making something so hard looks so so easy. Matty has been ripping on his new SS gear and that rubber O ring on the rear wing is a good idea. I rode his old Naish set up with a loose back wing and yeah it feels good.

'Rubber o-ring on rear wing'....I may be a bit slow....but please enlighten?

Hey Beasho totally hear what you are saying on the straps but 100 % reverse here. What few guys that were using them have taken them off I don't know of anyone using them ( my home town). Prone foiling is really starting to dominate here with really aggressive riding styles and yeah few guys now pulling airs strapless. The one big thing about the straps is rotations but no one here seems into that it's more really aggressive driving turns creating speed , very different lining up to pop airs. We also have some points with super long waves and prone paddling back out on strapped 4 foot boards would be a pain. Very guys pump all the way back out.

The sport just keeps evolving , exciting times.

Whilst it wasn't the best DW run, it was an eye opener to a future super fun one. This is a lap around Barrenjoey Headland. This is just the 1min vid for instagram, but pretty amazing to get anything from this slop.
