On close inspection today the web was not securely bonded to the side of the mast when I joined the two sides together allowing the sides to fold at that point. Received another great class3 video from France they help me understand how everything works

Maybe you need to look at making that web as a piece of moulded glass or carbon in a U channel shape like our wheels. that way you will maximize the glueing surface
great little vids. surface is rather reminiscent of Pt germaine

Love that beach. Except for the wet and rough spots it looks better than Yeppoon.

Started repairing the cracked wing mast, Thought I would get it out of the way before starting the foam/fiberglass one.

Cut a strip out of the mast from hound to foot and then bonded a web 18mmx80mm inside the mast from hound to foot.



Next a Layer a 60mm wide carbon tape in the thickest area of the mast from top to bottom, then added another layer of glass from the hound to the mast base this will be followed with another layer of glass over the entire mast.


I hope that it will be OK now.

finally got to sail the class3. once again the wind was less than 10kph but achieved 62kph. I will thin the plank a bit more as the ride was quite stiff apart from some miner changes I am more that happy in how it went(I think everyone that was there from the club had a sail in it and they all had smiles).
The video is not the best quality.

Planed and aero foiled the plank today to give it a bit more flex, Might make the cab hole a couple inches longer. felt a little cramped(especially when down hauling) I left some extra reinforcement inside the hull so that I could do this if required.
Another thing that was a problem on the day was that the cord that goes in the cam cleat that controls the mast kept dropping out is there something that is better than a clam cleat for this purpose

cam cleats and clam cleats are 2 different things. a cam cleat has the 2 hinged jaws and is best with a fairlead(the little hoop ) to guide the rope in.
a clam cleat has fixed jaws and can also be called a jam cleat
which have you got

Vic there is a cleat with a locking arm. You can haul the sheet through one direction ok but to release the sheet you need to lift the locking arm. Sheet is captive and cannot move to the side or any direction which would allow it to slip until that locking arm is raised. Much more expensive than the ordinary cleat though..W

Called a rope clutch I think They are very secure I have only used them in the 10 to 12 mm sizes

if you have a cam cleat you should find that the 2 bolts in the centre of the cams should undo ,allowing a saddle to be fitted over the cam.
this should stop your problem. what brand is the setup?

Both of these boats were built in the early 90's. I built the Bomb US27 and Phil Rothrock Built the Monster formerly know as Bliss. Glad they are still being sailed.

I now have the foam and the glass to start the mast, Probly take a few weeks as I will be away on a couple of occasions. But I will put up info and pics as I proceed. Still have to get the aluminium rod. First task the foam cutter.

Ended up using an old bow saw with an extended centre bar for the cutter. Cut into 2ft sections and started to glue together into six foot sections.

The bow cutter, heated with 6/12volt battery charger (used 12volt)

Finally managed to find some 12mm square aluminium rod, now I can proceed. Hope the lake will be dry in September
