On a safety note to the dmax owners are you aware of vehicule recall

Some locals got picked up for recall , contact your dealer, it's a fault that could occur causing handbrake to engage, apparently

Update on my research:

There is only one single company that can source a canopy for extra cab lengths: www.bodyline.com.au/collections/canopies
but they are all "fleet" style - with no side windows. e.g. Triton: https://www.bodyline.com.au/collections/canopies/products/mitsubishi-triton-l200-extra-cab-canopy-2015on-fleet-no-side-windows - rather uncool.

Therefore tossing up between an extra cab with a tonneau lift up top or double cab with a cool looking canopy... Cargo length is more important for surfboards I think (albeit only 1850mm vs 1520mm). However extra cab pickups are rare ~3 month order wait...

Right now got a 6'6 wombat, a 6 foot foamy and my 5 foot prone surfboard with foil attached (but fuselage off). Just waiting on the little tracker to get home. Plenty of room in my double cab triton for that at least. sBS are at an angle for sure.

Yeh me to but I have to store my little tackers gear and his surfboard range is increasing every week ... which is inversely proportional to money in my wallet ...

My buddy had a petrol navara. That thing sucked 18l/100km. My ute uses 8

Not really a comparison though is it? I think diesels are meant to be maybe 30% better on fuel, so comparing those two is not a fair comparison. A hilux is quoted as around 7 something litres of diesel against 11 litres of petrol.

It is fair if your considering buying petrol or diesel. Petrol uses suck way more gas.

I use a 50/50 blend of waste veggie oil and diesel in my 2002 Hilux diesel and 1994 Peugeot diesel car. The veggie oil is free

Don't try the veggie oil in a late model diesel, (common rail variety), however.

Why is a Subaru practical? It's pretty small, has no clearance and Subaru parts are super expensive... and it doesn't have a tray. Don't get the Subaru love to be honest never have.

Forester has enough ground clearance.. Don't go anything smaller.. it was a good car and went where my mates prado did (maybe he sooked it a bit)

Forester is light, and with some reasonable tyres will go fine..

I never had too much of an issue with parts, I snapped the power steering belt once, and I think that cost me a few hundred.. but at 180k km, i started to worry.

I have a ranger now, with full canopy and racks etc etc.. different car all together. I love the tray, I think my wetty may still be in there from Saturday. Whenever I did that with the forester, I knew about it!

But you'd get to the beach pretty fast after leaving the tanning salon.

I was just mentioning his is my ride and there are other options. If I wanted to go off-road I have the option of getting air lift suspension, it raises the car by 8 inches, so tease away felles, and I'm sure you boys couldn't comprehend the thought of anything going up 8 inches BTW my tanning salon is walking distance ;)
