I get the 1800 tray thing. I would love an 1800 tray. But then you don't put a canopy on. 1500 tray with canopy gives you more storage space than 1800 no canopy. Plus none of your tray is lockable and you can't easily sleep in it.........

Heard really good things about the new tritons. We had the old ones out at work and they literally fell to pieces. Told this to heaps of crew and they say the new ones aren't like the old, Soo much tougher.

Really? We've got the brand new ones at work and they are plastic fantastic, couldn't imagine them standing up to multiple off road beatings.

Aren't all new cars plastic fantastics!!

The MQ on did lift their game a bit for sure. But even the old ones went the distance.

Try some carpet strips for getting out of soft sand. It works real well.

The carpet gets sucked under the tire then you ride up and out.

Everyone seems to love to knock the tritons and say they're rubbish, but I have had multiple tritons for work on big earthworks construction projects and have to say that I have never had any issues with them. They were driven pretty hard too.
Have driven a bunch of hiluxs too through work which have a more robust feel but when the tritons are going for 27K new its pretty hard to justify spending all the extra cash on a hilux/amarok/bt50, etc

Yeh no doubt that if the prices were on par or even 10-15 percent more I'd go a hilux or Dmax myself. But I couldn't justify the piece differential of 20- 40 odd percent. They aren't 20-40 percent that's for sure.

Then again if I was going around Australia across the top end etc ... reckon I could justify the extra money and would. Just for perceived longevity and reliability (get out there all you see is Toyota's)and access to parts for one.

But for the average dude with average 4wd ing Tritons a hard car to look past to be honest.

I asked all my 4wd buddies when looking and they all said "hilux, with this almost religious zeal in their eyes " the only justification I got was "tritons are cheap" and other dumb Answers like "hiluxes are better". When enquiring into evidence behind these limited answers you could tell there was more folk lore behind their answers than intelligent evidence.


ps as far as tracks go ... I know some fireman crew who actually just store hessian bags in their vehicle. Fill with sand if bogged apparently make decent tracks. I've got two but never used them as the triton just doesn't seems to get bogged ... except it does have some clearance issue. Worth a lift soon I reckon.

Nah don't agree with that. They aren't over rated at all. I think the price differential has at least 10-15 percent of historically perceived quality over and above the reality. I do think a hilux will outlast a triton though in the long run given serious off road work. They are built stronger from what I see.

If they were say 10k above a similar specced triton id accept that.

I've got 3 buddies with tritons. They do the business.

I used a car broker who scoured every dealership etc in the country. For the same spec Dmax it was 11-15K more. This is new prices.

Best engines on the market I reckon, the D max. Little agricultural inside.
