She is making a BIG MISTAKE!!!!

This is just a stunt and gives most people the wrong impression on what yachting is all about.

She's going to be doing it hard not only in the southern ocean but north to the equator as well. Her route is NE after fiji to the line islands thats to windward
and against the current which can run at a rate of knots.

I think if she really had the right experence for this stunt and listened to people who have actually done it, there's no way she would do it.

Her parants need a good kick up the ass for leading her in this direction, I think they have medication for such disorders GO GET SOME BEFORE YOU LOSE YOUR DAUGHTER!!!!!!!!!!!!

She needs to stop listening to all the ****heads egging her on that haven't done it and listen to the ones who have and will tell her not to be stupid dont do it.

When you log to VMR you need to specified POB. number of people on board...
i find it strange she did not log into VMR when she left ..Did is it she forget or she did not want to report POB..was she really alone ??

by the way , she bost 10 000 miles experience..
well last year in november , when i met her, she had only to her sailing offshore :5 days cruise in vanuatu with 5 people onboard a 32 ts boats..
i find it hard to beleive she did 10 000 miles in 10 months......

The S&S34 is probably the best production vessel available at a reasonable price for bluewater sailing.
While I wish her no harm, I do hope that should the worst occur, it doesnt involve anyone other than those who chose to participate in this.
But in my mind there is NO DOUBT that these records will be pursued until a tragedy occurs then Guinness and other agencies will refuse to record them.
Success will only promote someone else to try until the inevitable...

Aha opinion ping pong - with out personal experience of the young lass - a lot of this is too pre-judged. There are 3 opinions presented in this thread I read and automatically respect - both side of the opinion divide.

I reckon most people's gut feeling is that she is under done on the preparation side - fatally?? Well some weather conditions out there will be fatal regardless - refer movie clips - but a lot of ok weather occurs through these areas which does not make a You Tube clip. I worked 3+ years at sea and mostly is was not really wild - but the few times which were were out there - (pre UTube!!).

Would I stop her if I had the emperor's thumb - no.

Why? - There is one of her trying in this country.

Since I heard of the trip - without trying to I have also heard of a kid fatally bashed to death in an "Accident" in a local school yard - and at least three kids younger than Jessica dead around a tree / lamppost - in car crashes - a suicide - etc.. this information is sourced locally - so on a national basis there would be more young deaths through a range of courses - most through far more shallow less prepared and thought out circumstances..

So if she wants to fly and it fails I as a parent would feel - better to happen trying than the all too common alternatives.

She is not guaranteed to fail - far from it. I will follow her endeavor with interest - I will not be totally gob smacked if she retires after 30+% of the journey - and would still give her the thumbs up for trying.

If she does manage to pull this off it would prove one thing i.e that what she is doing is just a game of chance and she has defied the odds and succeeded.
