Hi, ive started out again at xmas 2016 after 20yr no sailing.But will be bringing a learner. Any obstacles to avoid ? I know of the old rockbar/ oyster lease a few hundred metres offshore. Used to fish there years ago.

Hey Olschool, if you've got the time the best thing you can do for first time sailing there is to get down there at low tide and go for a walk and check it out. Then head off for fish and chips or an ice cream and come back once the tide on the Brisbane Bar hits about 1.4m or a bit more if you use big race fins. Like Dag's mentions the rock bars out the front of the carpark were marked by Adam with white pipes and there's random rocks up the Bribie end of the beach and all rocks here have Pacific oysters that will cut you to ribbons if you jump on them. Once you're a couple of hundred metres off the beach at high tide, there's nothing much in either direction for a long way.

Glorious morning at Sandstone, only light winds so Wallys, WindSUP's and Rio's got dragged out of the shed. The vicious, man eating dugong (described by Adam as a Tiger Shark) was cruising the weed banks and no speedbump ninja turtle sightings. The Weekday Windsurfing Freakshow is alive and well with Jeff, Darren, and the two learners Ethan and Dave joining me for a very pleasant cruise over the banks.

Good to finally put some faces to names today. Many thanks to Darren for his countless hours spent wading around in the freezing cold water instructing us noobs, and ofcourse Jeff and Paddles (Whose name escapes me) for all the encouragement.

Once again I am rooted. Looking forward to seeing you all on the water again soon. :D

Does Sandstone somewhat work in a SW? Keen to get out tomorrow morning.

Yep, it was SW when you were there on Friday Ethan. If there's wind I'll come and have a sail too. It'll probably be too much for Jeff to resist as well.

Righto Sandstoners, looking like a bit of a SW blow tomorrow before the southerly really kicks in late arvo. There should be enough water around lunchtime if anyone's keen. Weekday Windsurfing is going to score a few good days by the look of it

Dave's going great gun's. Three day's of perfect weather, and each day a little stronger wind.
He tried the inflatable wind sup today, and it was no where near as good as the Walley, so we need another one.

He said the Walley felt way more stable than the sup. The Walley is with it's centerboard down. The sup only has a tiny centerboard, and no directional stability which the Walley offers due to it's waterline length hence the better glide.
I'm working on a couple of big wide learner boards for larger people, or those that struggle with balance.

Certainly not how it was supposed to pan out today.
