Trouble is I chose the house because of the view of portland speed strip, but since renovating it the wind has stopped blowing!
But get quite a few phonecalls asking what the wind is doing don't have to rely on a wind tree like most.
Nevermind it will come soon I'm sure. Maybe some later on small chance of 20 knots s/w early evening. Sure the phone will start ringing.

That was a great link you posted about the solar activity.
Told the Ski Goddess at home about it, and she was very happy.
We've had a couple of Pineapple Express trips to Whistler, as well as some good ones, and weirdly, we prefer the good ones. Went to Colorado for their worst season in 25 years this year, while Whistler had 33 feet of snow base.

we've had a disasterous winter here wind wise. there has bee nmonths of no real action but it looks like things may be changing.

as soon as those solar storms flared up so did the wind for us.

Arghhh i be liking this format from what i gather me harties.
As for October speedweek i may enter this year remember it as a young lad, we used to get a Dutch family stay on our caravan site used to be amazing, people used to come from all over the world!
My sister was the fastest woman in the uk at one point if i remember right it was something like 23 knots bless her not bad for the early 80's.

SCORING SYSTEM.

1: Scoring is calculated from the Team results posted on the GPS Team Challenge Web Site each month.
2: It will be accumulating scoring system. Highest score Wins! Scores for each series will be finalized at the end of each month. ( On the 7 day after the end of the month.)
3: If at the end of the 5 series the results are a draw. The Ashes Trophy stays with the hosting Country.
4: Scores will be calculated from, adding up the 2 best team scores ( for each Country ) from each of the 6 divisions ( 2 second Peak, 5x10 second average, 1 hour, Alpha Racing 500m, Nautical Mile & Distance Travelled. ) added together to give the final score.
eg:

FOR GREAT BRITAIN.



so you would add all the results together to get the final score.
GREAT BRITAIN score 380.42

FOR AUSTRALIA.




So you would add all the scores together that are underlined by red to get Australia's results.

AUSTRALIA score 372.55

( please note these results were take from the GPSTC site 3 days ago and have changes since.)

5: At the end of the month 5 bonus points ( for each PB ) will be added to make up the final score for each Country. They will only be the PB's that make up scoring results.

6: If only 1 team posts results for the Month. Their best 6 division results are added together to get the final score.

I've suddenly seen the light!!!!! Thought this whole idea was a bit ho-hum, but I now have a feeling this is going to be alot of fun.
Well done Wineman for coming up with this, great work.

Maybe if the Poms could form a "Euro Team" with the Dutch guys it would make it more interesting. SUre, not a pure Ashes Tour, but a closer and more interesting competition.

The difference is that the Aussies get to run through their batting lineup, wheas the poms have to tough it out themselves.

This is for better or worse...

I think a little late night cricket commentating might start to spring up on the forums quite soon

Yes, not only does Oz have more teams, btu it has more geography to play wiht.
Spring is big in WA, SA, Vicco and QLd. As spring gives way to summer, teh Qld sailign starts to taper, but WA is cranking again with SW winds. As summer moves to Autumn, teh SE trades kick in on the East coast. Then winter comes and FNQ fires up.
MAybe the GTC Ashes team should be the samne one as the state the cricket is in at the time. So, a GAbba game means Qld sailing only. WACA is WA etc

If the Paddys and dutch wanna join so beit but this is The Ashes. But at the end of the day competition is no fun with a walk over.
Whatever it is i'm game and so are my boys (Portland Pirates) British Grit and all that we will never give up.

I admit to having no dog in this race, as I don't follow cricket. Now I appreciate that you may have had trouble understanding that last statement but I am a freak.
So any comments I make are mere musings and not meant to be taken too seriously.
We just have such a large pool of weather to draw from, though Dec/Jan can be pretty quiet with the summer doldrums.

Did cross my mind Ken, but cricket is late Nov to early Jan and wanted to get a spread of winter/summer for both Nth & Sth hemispheres.

Also get a spread of states competing each month, because as you say, the wind & weather vary greatly.

Maybe when a test is actually being played, that state team (& Poms, of course) get double points, or double for a PB.

Ok Peter, apologies for the lack of feedback regarding input into the scoring system.

Nebs has just pointed out a major "hitch" (sorry Ben ) in the scoring system, on the GP3S forum.

DISTANCE! The distance category far outways all the other disciplines in the scoring system


Reasons:

1. The Uk are loosing daylight sailing hours and temps are now on the slide, where as in OZ temps are rising and you are gaining daylight sailing hours, peaking at your summer equinox in December.

2. lets take wind or lack of it out of the equation just for now. Most UK speed spots are tide restricted, thus limiting the amount of sailing done at any spot.

3. Scoring merit ie. where by say 50kts peak 2 sec has the same scoring value has 50km sailed .. thats just not cricket!

Suggestions:

Sack the pb points bonus. Quite a few of the Brits have n't sailed yet, therefore would automatically get bonus points based on their first posted session, where as you lot have to beat your current pb to get a bonus.

Stick to the standard GTC scoring system, where points are awarded based on position in the rankings as the month evolves. The country with the least points at stumps of each monthly series wins that series. The points based system will have to be tweaked just taking into consideration the teams involved in the comp and not based on all other GTC teams scoring getting mixed in.
