Tweed river if it's more northerly, Kirra if more west.

It's funny how much the wind can be different in different places: at home I was woken up by a good 12-15 knots, looking at the graphs for Coolangatta (about 10k's north) it's reading 6 knots.

Luverly

12-15 knots on the river, got planing most runs with my 6.0, gybing over the sandbanks at each end, sun was shining, boardies and rashie, what a beautiful day

From the graphs it looks like the train would be a bit marginal... how was it Haircut?

Gestalt,

Me and my mate usually head out regardless of the tide, we just have to walk our gear out to deeper water at Manly. Thats if there is wind of course.

We are even breaking out the training gear for my mates wife this Sunday. Dare I say it... hopefully its not too windy for her!

Im already paying for that I just dont know it yet.....

Hey Poledancer,

Was it a bit too much onshore at Kirra? Thinking of going out there tomorrow.
Forecast is for a bit less than today but oi reckon it will be just as good... yes I know, famous last words

Gestalt,
If the wind's up I'll make the trip up to the train. At this stage Sunday's looking bigger but who knows this far out. Hope to see you there!

Dead North. Almost directly onshore, but just enough angle to hit the ramps at warp speed.

I'd imagine there will be a stack of people sailing @ broadwater on the weekend with this forecast and temperature. Car parking becomes a crisis

The other option is some ocean bump 'n jump at the Mirage- less crowded car parks!

fingers crossed on the jp turning up friday.

had a windsurf this arvo in the alley, not quite enough oomph for the boomph.

needed just a few more knots, plus I was on a borrowed 92l board, not enough volume for me today.

Kirra was ok from 10-1.I was trying to sail the 6.7 in the little waves like a smaller sail.Broke the pin in the mast base out the back and had to decide whether to stick with the sail or board.I know -stick with the board but lose the rig.Stuff that- side swam the sail in and the board ended up on the beach further down.I will say that if the board had started to drift out in a rip I would have chosen the board.Upon inspection there was evidence of rusting through a hairline crack in the thread.I now understand why they prefer not to use the euro pin in Hawaii.I will be changing.Changed to a 6m as it picked up a little. Was ok but too onshore and the waves out the back dirty to wind too much.Pole dancer said that it had only peaked at 17knots but it felt comfortable most of the time even on a 6m.
Also - Had a bikini clad German back packer girl approach, asking if there were sharks and can you swim in the ocean there mentioning how deserted it was around this beach and was it possible to bath nude.I kept my eye on the wind and mentioned that I could only talk with her while it was flukey and the swell was small.I had to adjust my rig while talking to her on the beach.Eventually the time for talk was over as a fresh gust came through. She grabbed my rig while I was heading back to the water which while nice in intent was not very helpful.A bit of pumping and I was out behind the break as she left as quickly as she came.
Interesting day.

i worked at coolangatta today. at lunch i went to cooly hotel and to see if yooz were sailing at kirra. as i walked down the street through the buildings towards the water it felt 30 knots and i thouht geez this is the strongest seabreeze we ever had. when i got to the beach it was really only about 13 knots?? i think it must have been funnel through the building...lol I couldn't see anyone out. on the way home there were 3 kites at 5pm

ive witnessed about 5 europins bust over the years, both the thicker and thinner version seem to snap at the thread at the bottom or snap off the ridge on the end. I reckon it's beccoz its too long and stiff (no dirty thought). Maybe the plastic used in the chinook cup ads a bit of flex and maybe thats why they dont bust? I've busted the spring clip in the chinook cup a couple of times but could always sail still coz one side was still there or i poked some rope through the hole to keep everything together till i got back

Poor bugger, glad you didn't lose any kit. Not the sort of decision I'd like to have to make...
So it wasn't possible to quickly wrap the uphaul around your ankle, and swim to the board? I guess it all happens so quickly.
I watched a very inexperienced guy at Ballina once, he didn't have very good rig control on the beach, it was way too big for me so I didn't go out, he managed to get going and then in the main break the rig and board parted ways. He was left with the rig, the board surfed the wave back into the beach, it was a long swim...

I checked out Kirra at about 2pm, too light for me, only about 12 knots or so. From the graphs it looks like it picked up after I left. Damn!

i reckon it's safe to disregard Seabreeze's forecasts at this time of year coz ironically it doesn't seem to take a seabreeze into account. the local news on telly saying increasing 20-25 inshore for the arvo tomorrow (saturday)

was great today

So that's the end of that Northerly pattern.

I went out on the Tweed river again, it was disappointing, was planing in 5 seconds on the first run then the wind died and I slogged for the next 2 hours. Still, did a count and am getting over 80% of gybes so there's the "Slogging slow speed gybe" nailed. Can't duck to save myself though

Hey Poledancer, did anyone go out at Kirra today?

Haircut, how was the Train? Did Gestalt make it down there? Looks like you guys got more wind than we did, especially after 2pm. If I'd known in advance I would have driven up

Been sailing the last two days at Kirra. It has been excellent on a 5.3 It may be onshore but it has more wind than the rest of the coast in a Northerly.

hi nebbian,

didn't make it on the water today. had a blast saturday. was on the 8.5 and the formula kit at the train. low tide made it a bit scary with the water depth. did a personal best speed wise.

got the usual barge comments while rigging up. i think everyone seemed to have an excellent time. lots of smiles on faces stuff.

gee, those bloody jet boats are taken the piss. they were doin 360's in the middle of the speed run...what's that all about. hitting boat wake totally powered up on the formula gear in the middle of the run is not for the faint hearted.
