I have a simple solution to this problem of rule interpretation:

  • Give way to Elmo
  • Give your Waves to Elmo
  • Stay clear of Elmo (it's safer for all concerned)
  • Do not sail better than Elmo (This is a toughy)
  • Do not use Elmo as a gybe marker
  • Do not laugh at Elmo's wave sailing technique (no matter how funny it looks)
  • Do not attempt to use Elmo as a puppet (insertion of a hand is NOT appreciated)

There yo go eeeeeeeaaaaassy

Comrade Elmo
What about insertion of board when you making mistake on my wave as some one charging on through ?
This is accidental but very funny for the laughing of it none of the less

Yeah but what about if I gybe on the wave the same time as you, but because the swell is coming at an angle to the shore then that means the downwind sailor saw it first but you are upwind and then when we get to the reef then it breaks closer to me but you are pointing higher and then another guy heading out wants to jump near you so he wants you to give the wave to me, and so I yell at you "**** off" in German and then we get confused cos the break doesn't follow international rules???

Huh? Huh? what then?

I think I took too much of my painkillers. Ankle is coming good though thanks for asking I love you all

Mr Mark,

This is a bit trickier than Mr Kremlin's scenario.

For this particular case study you would need to apply both

Rule 2
Give your Waves to Elmo
and Rule 3
Stay clear of Elmo

Rule 3 has basically been designed to protect the other Punters.

Trust this gives sufficient information to your query

Elmo, seems you have not shared a wave with Mr Yuk Foo, he give you very special wave sharing experience

Decrep, I am not sure I want to see your little pink bum so I am not sure that I can offer any answer to that question (which I am hoping... so, so hoping) was hypothetical.

Can we end this thread before it degenerates any futher into the gayness that is the kite forum.....

Ahhh Mr Yuk Foo and me have spent many a messy night together, but this is a family forum so I can't divulge details here.

Needless to say he is one sick puppy, it's possibly why that dog excites me

Guess you missed my post on the other thread, where you wodered about the abilities of photo shop to make your ass smaller and less orange.
I had a go with "The Gimp" instead, my open source alternative to photoshop and posted it here.
www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=3443

It's smaller & more pink.

So after you check it out, by all means draw this thread to a close.

Sorry Mineral1 didn't mean to get so snappy, was gonna add a reason to back up why I reckon this thread's been worthwhile.

I, for one, have learnt a lot about right of way. Most importantly is that different people have different ideas of who has the right of way (which has cleared up my confusion from sailing at Lancelin and not being able to figure out a pattern).

We have also had input from locals at a few different places and established the guidelines for these breaks.

Three pages, yeah it's a lot, and we will never have a consensus. But to recommend that the topic never ever be discussed? Nah. It's a windsurfing topic on a windsurfing forum.

If the first guy in the line up doesnt take the first wave , then you can challenge him for the next one if it would have been your turn, then rule applies: the guy closest to the critical section gets it, a battle of will and skill.
If you cant spot waves out the back , you become second class any way.
gyebing into the wave upwind, ignor the guy and push him off when hes come down to you.
All ends in big screeming sesh caus every one thinks their right.

Ray

Ps: what about kites surfers on waves ?????

I cant believe this has dragged on for 3 pages!
Here in WA where it is somewhere near sideshore always, first on the wave should have right of way.
Tough s..t if your trogging or stalling.
Theres always room for courtesy though, but its extended from he who was on it first.
