.......Apparently there's a safety issue here ??
Obviously poleys have zero manoeuvrability when sailing with a fat-arse rig at breakneck speed.
Stupid kiters, don't they know.....
GPS-MEN CAN'T TURN.

"With teeth fully clenched tight, and with beads of perspiration dribbling down from the brim of his gath-hat.....
the GPS-man noticed the meter strapped to his bicep was red-lining."
"Suddenly, thru the mist of sweat, he noticed a lone kiter directly in his sights, straight on course."

There's only one thing to do in this situation. ^^^
lol.
First, adopt the poo-stance (if you aren't already in it).
Then, gently squeeze out the slippery hard line from the clutches of the hook....
and with the full force of your bum-muscles, dump the load.
Throw your feet to the sun, legs wide apart,
arch your helmetted-head back towards the water......
and butt-check to safety.
lol.
Just like that US pilot when he ditched his arse into the Hudson River and skidded to a halt.
No one died.
That was beautiful.

NO they shouldn't be banned!

They should be smart enough to realise that they are risking lives.

The other night at Melville one lone Kiter ventured up into the Poley area right where everyone was starting thier downwind run, why?

If you want really flat water you could go way upwind in the shallows where the windsurfers don't go, but stay far enough upwind not to cause problems.

I came very close to colliding with a kiter at Woodies on Wednesday doing close to 35K. He unfortunately chose to boost into my path without looking...as kiters are wont to do.

I literally stepped off my board and the board and rig came to rest no more than 2 metres from where he crashed into the water, after spotting me when he was airborne and pretty much out of options.

Prior to this incident I had been happily sharing the strip with two other kiters, who displayed some respect and awareness of what I was doing, as I did to them. They even did a few downwind runs of their own.

It was hell windy (28-33K) and I think windsurfers are entitled to sail the north side of Woodies in prime speedsailing weather (I won't bother sailing there unless it's honking...it ain't worth the risk).

Kiters need to look before they boost!!! It's only common sense. I would never gybe without looking behind me to see if there is anyone aft or downwind of me, yet I constantly see kiters at Woodies boosting without checking if there is anyone in their path. WTF is that about??

I don't need a kiter to make me ditch, the auto eject system in my rig regularly fires of prematurely

It would be a sad day when a group of people are banned from an area.

How about putting signs up warning both sail and kiters of the dangers of sharing an area.

The only problem then would be funding and approvals from local councils.

Echhy I know waveslave, and though most seabreeze forumers would not believe this he's not a bad bloke, and he loves stirring (and we all over do it sometimes me included). I think he's having a go at our preciousness and our inability to be manouvreable at speed, which are true. However, Slave has never come over to our speed spot and done his thing because he has the right to, he has never put us at risk therefore he has acted responsibly, so Give the Guy some CREDIT!!! Remember Responsibilities come before Rights. In all of life one must act responsibly first such as obey the laws and keep others safe, before they exercise their rights. I agree banning is not a good thing, this needs to be a voluntary thing ... we are both helping each other out here if we keep each other safe. Mandurah is blessed in that it has a huge Estuary with the luxury that the two sports have at least 2 equally good beaches, where each sport can do their own thing, and windsurfers not stuff it up for kiters and vice versa. The beach they have is safer for kiting with more sideshore winds, and no major obstacles close to shore, we voluntarily gave it up, and ask windsurfers not to go there. I'll probably get massacred for supporting Slave, but if we don't argue fairly then our arguments have little weight!!

I've had Windsurfers, kiters, boats, and swimmers doing silly things and getting in my way during a speed run. We need to ban the lot of them!

Or maybe just a bit of education and courtesy would be a better option.

I had a big-ass turtle (?tortoise?) not giving way at Dutchies on Thursday when hanging on and only just in control --- but then again he probably had right of way.

At about 1m or more across he was a hazard that just wouldn't see sense and move on. In the rough conditions he was quite hard to see and he was loitering just out from the reef.

Could have been messy

Well turtle's are a different story, and I think we should legislate to have all turtles banned from Dutchies

Turtle nets. Turtle nets with poles that stick up with crime scene tape between them, and thugs on jet skis committing the crimes vis: bashing errant kiters and freestylers who dare to intrude.

Turtle. They are all turtles unless they have legs. If no legs and no flippers they are probably victims of bashing by the speed strip police.

I don't think there's a need to ban kites. However, if someone were to run High Voltage power lines at about 6.5m along the length of the speed strips, this may solve some problems :P

Can you?

Think about it, at 30kts you are doing about 15 meters per second at 35 knots its probably closer 20/25 meters per second, so by the time you see someone boosting towards your path, then look for where they will land, then decide which way shall I go, then start a sweeping turn to avoid hitting them because we cant just turn at 45 deg on the eye of your knob, there is formula that I dont know which is somthing like mass + thrust = velocity then you add direction change to that and the fact that you (The kiter) are trailing 30 meters of string............. Christ all mighty the answer is obviously NO!

Lets say we take 2 seconds to make all the decisions we need to avoid crashing into you, how far have we have traveled...... Can you add that up? Wrong it's 50 metes and more than likely we will be sitting in the water together entangle in sail, kite and lines and probably bleeding and in pain.

I do mean to sound like a smart arse because common sence is needed in these situations.

Please be carefull.

Hey it was funny although I don't agree that it's right I still have a sense of humor.

I've been learning to windsurf all weekend, I've been really lucky that windsurfers are great people, already I've been given a board to learn on until I'm ready for a smaller board, also I have a mast and boom lent to me, I'm going to buy a sail tomorrow a second hand wave sail

I'm not about what's cool I think your misinterpreting what I write

Yes, we can swerve into the rocks that we're sailing close to. Or we can swerve upwind and lose that run. We've got more swerving ability than a kiter who's in the air, but not much. If we spinout at speed (happens quite a bit) then we lose pretty much all steering ability and we're trying very hard not to eat sh** at 35 knots... which hurts. A lot.

It's not really the point though, the point is that there is one spot out of a MASSIVE estuary that we go speed sailing on. Deciding to kite at that particular spot is like deciding to have a picnic on a freeway. You may ask why the cars can't steer/swerve at 110 km/h.
