I purchased a Need Essential 3/2 last season. Out of 10 I give the Need suits a 6/10 for design (there's more water flush down the neck than the top wet suits), a 7/10 for build quality, and a 9/10 for value for money.

Ordered an Xcel Xplorer 3/2 for under $200 (delivered) to start to replace both my 4/3 Xcel and 3/2 Peak.

It was pretty warm on the first surf the other day, however we'll see if it turns into the same quality as the 4/3 version which I've been using for winter only for many years now and was great. From the first surf I don't think I'll need a 4/3 for winter but we shall see.

The Peak was OK but had the replace the neck as the rubber was leaving black marks on me.

My quicksilver 3/2 has the red fuzzy stuff over the back & chest. I was just about hot last Sunday when I saw people shivering & the last 3 days have been fine.

Just read smh in the LB room just got a Vissla

Never heard of them, nor volte before I'd bought the need. Seems every man and his Thai* supplier is pumping these things out at a reasonable** price nowadays.

* insert cheapest SE asian country company negotiated with.
**perhaps not the vissler suits

Buster I think all are made in Asia now even the local suits (freo shop cannot remember their name) they used to do a fit and adjust service hung on for ages but ended up going to Asia years ago (I think)

Have a Vissla Springy as good as anything I've had in a springy and was good value for money, still use it when most have started donning steamers.

RE: Steamers.....Just brought a need essentials 3 x 2 steamer and have used a few times down here and its cold water at present. Not experiencing any flush, fit and quality good, best damn value for money in the market at the moment by a long way. The only down side I believe is the cut in the design where the stitching is basically in line with the tri-cep and I believe this restricts it from being an epic wetty to paddle in and at the moment it seems pretty damn good. I reckon though, this is one of the reasons they are able to produce cheaply given the cut is probably as is, to maximize usage and minimize wastage from the roll of Neoprene.

By the way its damn good quality neoprene. Wasn't expecting much for 210 clams delivered to the South Coast of WA. Been using it all week and more than impressed. going to get another as a dry back up.

I'm onto my third Need steamer (over 4 or 5 years). I like them, flexible and don't leak, last around 2 seasons of fairly decent use (3-5 times a week on average) before they start to develop small holes. I don't find they leak, but have a skinnier mate who reckons his flushed every duck dive.

Thanks Captain, yeah Sirroco you could buy of the rack or get them fitted I never noticed much of a difference between the two even though people swore fitted was warmer.

But I always had my suits fitted.........the hottest looking girl used to do the measuring

Well when i first got my flashbomb i was raving bout it. hasnt even made it thru the winter and has started to tear at heel and im sure i feel water leaking in spots. Hardly get neck flush tho which is good. Rip curl has said they will repair, but thinking they have made them so flexible dont recon ill get more than 2 seasons and it will prob tear in half.

Stopped getting ripcurl for that reason, love the fit but they just don't last for the money imo. I soak in fresh water after every surf. My last oneil was only mildly better but they don't fit me as well as ripcurl do.
My need wettie is doing well can't fault it really.

Once ripcurl were made to last, still got two more than 20 years old in good nick. Now they make them to die within a time frame to invigorate sales as they are confident with those that are loyal with the brand buying again. I still reckon one of the best cut suits ever but will never buy again after 35 years of nothing but ripcurl. Last couple in our family haven't lasted too well given the price point. Comfy, yes, warm, yes, durable ? nope. Its a shame.
