Having a McT 9.1 FB Evo and 2x 7'3" 7S (poly and epoxy) I don't think you're going to see too much difference going from a 8ft Epoxy 7S to a 9.1 anything...

Why not consider going the other way to something shorter - I've said it a few times but I'm around 113kg and the 7'3" 7S goes really well on anything from knee high to well overhead. The new SuperFish shape is even faster and looser...

Not pimping - but would hate to see you spend the $$ on a LB and not get the difference you are hoping for...

A 9ft longboard is probably a bit different to what you have, volume wise very similar but I have a few boards of similar volume and they don't surf anything alike. I think it depends on where you surf and how you want to surf.

I just gave a quick summary below but others can probably add to it

Log
an old school log type board is for drawn out turn, nose riding, usually smaller weak waves. Paddles onto anything easy and lots of glide.

A HP 9ftr, is a bit of a cross between a mid length back and noseriding front.
It is somewhat of a nose rider but a bit more tail orientated and probably suited to slightly more racier wave than a log. Where you are turning more from the tail than just setting up a nose ride. Can ride this nearly everyday, very much and all round board.

Midlengths say 8ft to 7'ft. Tail orientated surfing, turns etc, sure sometimes you can sneak a quick 5 but mainly you'll be standing on the tail and looking to do turns. And don't let people tell you midlengths suck, minimals suck but there are plenty of interesting boards in this range that wouldn't be classed mini mals.

Under 7 ft with high volume.

More shorty type surfing, turning more, pumping down the line, board will be easier to turn but have less stability

& then normal shortboards

Agreed 100%.

What I am saying is that I don't think Kadilak is going to get the 'massive' difference moving from a (very) high volume 8fter to a HP 9.1...

My 7.3 7S has 53lt - my 9.1 McT has 66lt. Kadilak's 8ft 7S has 67lt volume. Agreed the shape is very different...

Yeah, I ended up with a 10 inch hatchet, i was a bit slack and only ordered it last week so waiting for delivery.

@GPA, yeah I agree with what your saying, It was more making the point depends on the waves and how you want to surf.but gee 67 litres is pretty high, mine 9ft is less but guess I'm a lot lighter.

This is in line with what I expected. I will try a 901, and expect it to glide better so a little easier to catch small waves that I normally ride. A 901 is probably a good replacement for my superfish when I snap it at Teahupoo on a 30 foot wave

I probably need something a bit more nimble to compliment the big floaty. You suggested the 7'3 a while back as something to progress on to, but it seems a bit funny to have a 8' and a 7'3 of the same model. But then again you have 2 the same model and same length.

BTW, I have no complaints about my epoxy fish, just thinking about what I would buy next.

Maybe there is a board shop that hires boards out, you might have a go on a few different boards to see what suits you before shelling out the cash.

I got my second 7.3 7S as I was happy with the Poly version, but wanted to try Epoxy - and the SuperFish had an updated (improved) shape... I kept my Poly as as holiday board for my 14yo - it was too beat up to be worth much as a trade-in...

Personally, I think you'll notice a big difference between the 8ft and 7.3 as it's not only 9" shorter - but 14l less volume...

Always best to demo if you can...

You could always go for something with a more shortboard shape/ biggish board?
There are a few out there with more float and who knows maybe you'll progress to liking the pumping and the turning over the ole gliding and 'slowness'. Feel free to then jump over to the SB forum

But that is what I already have......... and when I am fumbling to get up off the board that's my version of pumping for speed.

Nah, these LB breezers are looking after me just fine

I like the look of the UFO's and redline's. Steve Del Rosso makes a good board as well, probably going to put in an order for one for the girlfriend just having a hard time defining pretty blue.

Crazy i know of a few blokes that ride Steves boards and they
give the thumbs up

yeah mines a cracker, happy I put the extra width in the nose

Mad...definitely
Keen... yes
Surfer...some evidence of this

I need a UFO but I am not getting rid of the big fish.

My personal rating if these board is:

UFO - 10
Fish - 9.8

Daughter tried out a 6'8" 7s superfish and she loved it.

Pics to follow. Any pics you want witheld Mac? You know what I mean

Next time I will check the tides and wind. This was just a last chance opportunity in the holidays. You have an extraordinary gem of a location on your doorstep mate, great to catch up again.

Hey GPA,

You said you cracked the rail in another thread, i know you said it is epoxy, is it the X2 full sandwich or is it one of the other epoxy glassed ones, if so is it the slx or slxc or the PE version.

Someone maybe able to tell us the difference in strength etc, if only there was an expert......

Did you look at the fibre flex? I like the sound of these.

The different construction methods are below.
