I think there was one bloke talking talking about doing downwinders with boots on, then posted here his misfortunes unaware of the fundamental problem

Did an epic downwinder on sunday with 11 dudes. 30km of rh wave after wave after wave awesomeness. 25-30 knots. shoulder to head and a half.
The were 3 or 4 surfboards, a couple strapped, a couple strapless. I busted the first half on the foil (which was stupid!) then mutanted the rest. The rest where on TT's with a couple of them in boots!...

Anyway. everyone was amped and had a blast. nobody got all pissy about the fact that someone else was riding a different board.

I really enjoy watching a good TT rider slay some surf. its a different style to sb riding. More powered slash and boost style.

I witnessed this surfboard Injury. Hey, what happened to the good old days when all you complained about were the windsurfers?

Bring on the war zone!! It's getting too crowded anyway.

A few weeks ago we did a downwinder on the central coast. We got to a point break. Cross offshore, as good as I've seen it. Everyone is lining up from out the back for the rare epic sets. Then you'd aim for the last lip
Section before 3 surfers would get the scraps and who would drive in on his Fuel, cut us off and boost in the best part of the waves? Twin tippy McTipster.

Not to make matter worse there is a couple of guys paddling around here. It's not the only time I've seen this sort of tool.

I know everyone is preaching love fest. But surely I'm not alone in seeing this type of behaviour?

There's dick bags in every discipline.

I've had surfy mcsurfboard mowing the lawn smack in the middle of the best boosting section of the beach. And so called mr experienced sb rider being droppy mc drop in , in the middle of the line up!

Guys, remember this is under the banner "humour" chill out and have fun on whatever floats your boat.

Nope. Kooks are kooks whatever they ride.

I think it's perfectly fine to ride a TT in the surf, as long as you work in with all the other riders in the lineup. Not so happy with TT riders who ride at a different angle to everybody else and do lame boosty tricks that get in the way of everybody.

Equally not happy with strapless crew who can't ride strapless. No problem with competent strapless riders. Definitely go and practice somewhere else and get your skills up before you venture into a lineup. Nothing worse than strapless kooks who ride in, try a turn on a wave, lose their board, then spend ages dragging around in the middle of the best section blocking everybody else.

I've surfed thousands of waves kiting. Yet i'm not a surfer. I know what the feeling of surfing waves feels like. And to be honest. Its a bit boring. That's why i'm not on a surfboard in the waves. don't like that surfboard feel. Surfing without a kite in general is bat**** boring with way to much paddling then sitting and waiting for a token few seconds of glory.

Sure its fun to be on a double head charging face. Ripping down the line, no power in the kite, smacking some lips and doing some gnarly powerful bottom turns. But I find it wanting. I find powering up with the power of the kite and the wave at the same time more dynamic.

This purist bul**** of having to ride waves like a surfer on a surfboard is just that, purist bull****. There's so much more to be had than just waves.

Now if you love the purist wave riding experience. Good for you. carry on riding the way you want to ride. Is it better than how someone else enjoys they way they want to ride? No. Do you have the secret to eternal happiness that no one else who doesn't surf can understand? No!

There's enough room out there in the ocean for all forms of fun. Just respect the other dudes fun. if that happens to be in the line up riding down the line then respect that. work around it. If its someone who likes to boost off the waves lips on a TT then respect that too. Work with other peoples stoke and everyone will enjoy. If your a surfing down the line you don't automatically have priority to all the waves on the beach. Take a wave ride it have some fun. If that part of the beach also happens to be the best boosting place (which often times it is) then ensure the boosting guy gets a go at boosting off the lip.

I do both. I'll ride some waves. get bored with the down the line riding, switch to upwind wave riding then switch to boosting off the lips, All on the same day in the same line up. If your respectful of others and they are respectful of you then its all good.

It only turns to **** if you think you fun is more important than the next guys fun....

I personally believe it is true that only a surfer know the feeling,.. yes you can kitesurf a wave but they are chalk and cheese and trying to compare the two is impossible. Nothing even comes close to pure surfing good waves. Kiting is a good substitute but I personally have never been able to replicate the stoke I get from surfing in kiting. Even when its cranking, you are never as connected. That initial drop, bottom turn and set up is something spirital, where as on a kite it just feels forced.
Why do you think it is such a huge part of the industry, ie trying to make kiting more like surfing. From boards that feel "more real" to sliding spreaders, ball loops etc,.. even the ambassadors of the sport admit there is a constant drive to get kiting closer to surfing but were not there yet,,. cant wait till we are though :)!!

All that waiting and bobing around for a token few seconds of glory. Sure its fun and I understand the droping initial drop feeling and bottom turn. Its not enough for me. But its not the only sensation in the world that's fun.

Its great that your stoked and that others are stoked on surfing. But its just one of many stoke worthy sports. For me, surfing is a dead duck. To slow to much effort for not enough fun per hour. So I don't to it. I need more minutes of fun per hour.
