Whilst that's pretty disrespectful, there is no way 2 fish carcasses attracted a 3.5m bitey. I've caught loads of different sharks of all sizes all over the state and they just aren't like that. The sharks are already there, well established and well aware that following the billion salmon swimming 100m off and up the coast is an easy meal. Once the salmon disperse, they then have the humpbacks to eat so it's no wonder they set up home off the SW coast and now whaling has stopped (it's ok to eat fish, cows, sheep etc to suvive but not a whale?) the numbers are skyrocketing. Just as well they don't attack us!

If 2 carcasses are a big concern i suggest you go to between Rockingham and Freo once the salmon really hit the metro area and watch what the real ****head fisho's do. The treatment of caught fish is deplorable! Probably by the same type of person who would bother to eat a wobbegong

The point is the sharks were in the area for the salmon, then stayed in that same holding patten for 3 days at least..Something was keeping them their, and 20 m of that one spot..

The second point was zero signage from council for a few days, then they eventually stuck up the basic yellow and black shark warning sign. That one tends to be ignored as locals think its Bronzies. When they are warned its a GW, they pay atten. Again if you are pro cull or anti cull, why cant people work on mutual ground that will make a difference..

They are a resource, fish them, even so called protected species. Manage it with sound science, that improves the more data and experience is collected.

No, I don't think that. I think when salmon are running is a stupid time to be in the water. But only because we have allowed the white sharks to breed up again. People weren't getting attacked at every other MR surf comp or salmon run. Now, apparently, they are.

I just watched a story on CH 7 and the first surfer attacked says he saw a large shark and they left the water 1 hour before re entering the same spot. So his attack was as stupid as the second attack. Sorry but if people refuse to use commonsense, what else can we do. So our taxes just paid for an emergency air lift to Perth, surgery costs, ambulance charges for the second surfer attacked, and the cancelation of the MR pro. Then people start demanding we cull sharks to stop attacks..

I'm pretty tired already of the attempts to rewrite shark attacks as entirely the fault of the surfer involved.

There's plenty of blame to go round on top of the surfer from the eco warriors who refuse to accept that maybe just maybe there are more large whites in WA these days to the labor govt that's quietly persued a small target do nothing approach.

That would only be true if sharks were evenly distributed around the globe and attacks were on a schedule, like buses and trains.
