50.01Kts peak for a certain Pit crew KA sailor.
Carnage is right. Only the 100k guys were getting repeated runs. I managed two runs and new PB peak at 47.0 knots and 10 sec just over 45 knots.
If only it had backed off 10 knots I may have been able to do a few more runs.
When Tony Wynhoven is using a 4.4m sail, you know it's windy.
Anthony Perkins took my wind gauge up on the spit and saw a 58 knot gust, but that was before we started trying to sail. On the course there were definitely sustained gusts to 50 knots because the water was smoking. It was very constant wind. Seldom backing off to less than 40 knots. On one walk back I sat for about 5 minutes while the water smoked. Couldn't really lift my rig without it pulling me off balance.
More news to come.

On behalf of those who rigged and got wet but didn't get out I can confirm that it was indeed carnage material!!! Some serious 2second and 500m pbs but not many have managed to string together 5 runs (so far as we know at the minute). Couple of the heavy guys may have hung in to write their names down in history!!! Probably need some nappy san for the washing machine tonight!! Major respect to those who locked in and held on.. Sure there'll be some stories exchanged over a few nerve calming beers tonight.
A more sane day forecast for tomorrow should be good fun.

5.5m is my smallest. After seeing Slowboat struggle with his 5.5 I was just waiting for the calm patch that didn't eventuate... could have gone for a body slam but can't afford the damage - esp with a good day forecast tomorrow

when he stopped, the breeze was that strong it tried to take his board for a run
He looked like he was in control the whole time well the first 20 meters anyway He even had trouble backing orf at the end.
Hope its just as good for Hardie when he gets there.

Thanks Oldie - am too scared to look. It was pretty extreme, haven't worked in such full on conditions before (which is why I stayed at the top of the course). Ah, bring on tomorrow.

Ok, here are a few random shots from yesterday, it was a tamer day than yesterday so I headed down for the bottom on the run and got some good shots then I thought what the hell so I waded in clothes and all thigh deep and got some great shots and a couple of heart attacks thanks to Kato's close calls. There were approx 900 shots taken on the day and there are more on my website (www.whitecapsphotography.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=7137781) but if you dont see yourself, let me know your sail details....

Go karting today......

Great photos Jodi - I especially like the one of the guy just sitting looking forlorn and broken with his sand covered board.
