I think Nebs makes a good arguement.

The comp is set up for how many Ks you do in a day. Not how many you do in a 24hr period.

It's an exceptional effort but my feeling is that next time Kato should start at midnight and sail until midnight if all the Ks are to be counted in the same day.

Option 2 isn't actually an option - it's the existing rule.

Yes it is, ask your GPS

aha, but isn't a nautical day from noon until noon? At least it was in the days of Napoleon and Jack Aubrey (Master and Commander).

, however every now and again someone throws us a curve ball which shows that our system isn't perfect.

Yes it is, Option 2 Nebs

That said, to sail that far with a lot of it in the dark is a super Huge effort (mad) and if I was down there I'd be the first to slap Kato on the back and buy him a beer.

I think GPS-SS have a 12hr ranking (excuse me if wrong), maybe they need to change that to 24hr ?

Remember GPS-TC was set up as a fun challenge and to get people back onto the water socially. GPS-SS is I think (I don't go there) is where we would look for world records and where Kato's effort should and will shine on the world stage. As I said well done mate, bloody awesome.

Really? What sort of a crazy...

Whale oil beef hucked, you're dead right:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/nautical+day

Geez you learn something new every day. Including (for me) that an astronomical day is from noon to noon as well, but 1 day different to the nautical day

Cripes.

Anyway thanks for your support guys, it's very much appreciated.

Kato, a fantastic effort and a new 24hr world sailing record!! I must say I am a little relieved (total understatement) that I don't have to plan another "distance day" just yet as far as the GPS TC goes!! Hope you've recovered OK!! Well done once again.

A "light sail" would be anything up to 300kms for you eh Craig?! - and get us off to a good start for December!

Well done mate! Split or not split, 553kms in 24hrs, combined with sailing through most of the night is a mind-boggling effort. Hopefully I can get off work and help back you up next time!
