Dont stop and fiddle around with the GPS Sue. Get going so you dont miss that next gust. All you need to do is look down at the screen to see last run and best run. Looking at it wont make you go any faster.

In any case, once you are familiar with the buttons by playing on land beforehand, as Mikes says, you could do it blind without any issues..

True ... but if you're blind, why do you care what the display shows ?

Julien has said he will include a carousel where the screen will cycle through chosen screens at the end of each run

Hello ! Wrist strap ? The armband or the top part of the bike support ? I'm redoing all this stuff but in the meantime, simply use it.

the arm band is what i have been using , would be good if the unit had a tether point just for security i guess

if its really windy i might just put it into a aqua pack for the time being , other wise the motion is just the best gps i have used does all we wanted

Icouldn't activate the buttons, but If you have the carousel working, it's fine in a paqua midi, a little bit harder to read perhaps.
And it's ok to take it out of the paqua to reset the hr, if you need to.

I wanted to fix this early. So I ordered and trialed a possible solution this week. It fixes the issue but isn't nice.

With this experience, I found a better idea right now. It will fix the issue, reduce the width of the armband a bit for those who want it on their forearm, allow its use on the wrist and stuff. It takes into account a few user-experiences I heard of.

I only sent emails to suppliers now and it's the weekend so more news in a few days.

Users with pending orders will receive an email Monday or Tuesday with details and obviously, the ability to take Motion as it is now, wait for the update (two weeks probably, more news in a few days) or cancel their order if they wish.

Users with current Motion will be able to add the fix themselves quite easily or exchange it.

Quite the decision but it'll be, I hope, a nice leap forward.

I've got something interesting already. First "as-real" trials Wednesday. I'll send pics to everyone involved then.

I don't think so, just another sailor with a Motion in the same vicinity.

Yep, it's a radio link between motions, so unless there's others out with a motion on, it won't be much good. We've tested it, the receiving unit comes up with a message, giving coordinates of the sending unit.

It's an extra from the networking. It beats having nothing at all. And relies on you sailing with mates who own Motions too. When things go south, it gives them an easy way to feed your position to emergency services. It beats risking your own lives to find your mate in dangerous conditions and does not require any preparation. If it required subscriptions, maintenance and the likes, nobody would have it ready when push comes to shove. I know surfers who have been lost at sea who still do not use any beacon because it's too big, too expensive, too serious. This is an easy/free/you-already-got-the-device-on-you-anyway last resort. Don't rely on it, don't believe in it, consider it doesn't even work. But hey, if it saves a single life ever, it will be great.

In addition to what Julien said, I could receive Decrepit's emergency message at approx 1 NM when the units were about knee height above the water - (sitting on your board height) - in ideal conditions. We have a bit more testing to do but it would appear that you if you need to keep your mates in-sight as well, and not rely on the beacon to alert you to a sailor in trouble.

You break something and slowly drift : helpful.
You break something and night comes : helpful.
You are close enough to come back swimming (don't) but will lose your gear : tie it up to your board and hope to find it on shore later.

For anything else, hope your mates get in a safety boat with Motion to scout the region. Height gradient is important. Boats and helicopters will reach much farther than waist-high. For the same reason GSM antennas are high. Competition organisers will have fixed Motions with much bigger external antennas that will pick signal farther away.

My 2c worth. Ive only seen one Motion. (KA72) But will the device pop out of flexy armband case? Could velco be fixed on the back of device n inside flexy case to stop it becoming dislodged when catapulting? Otherwise it looks awesome n can be read easily, even by my salty glasses.

We've made the upgrade on about 20 devices now and everyone seems happy about it. I'm making the first ones with it as standard now. I'll send a few more and if everything is fine, I'll send a bulk shipment of upgrade packs to Australia.

I tried something like velcro, 3M Dual Lock, 8 months or so ago and it wasn't a success.

Here's pictures of the current setup : imgur.com/a/9o6HPQN

Bit hard to tell by the Photos how does the motion connect to the arm band or is that a separate cover that goes over the motion unit

It's a milled epoxy/fiberglass part glued to the bottom of Motion. It is indexed above for Motion and below for the bike support. It also has two holes to pass the strap. I received the new ones today. I'll take pictures tomorrow as it's midnight here.

Upgrade packages will come with a new armband, a new wristband, the plate, and two lengths of strap. To do it, you'll need sandpaper around 120 and a common easy-mix epoxy glue. It's pretty easy. Rough Motion's bottom face a bit, like 10 seconds with 120 grit, just to make sure epoxy will have something to grip to. Spread a thin layer of epoxy on the plate. Place Motion in (it's a nice easy fit as the pocket is indexed for it). Press. Clean a bit with paper towels if there's excess glue. Then keep pressed with a bit of weight for 24h. I'll redo a picture tutorial with the new plates but it went fine 14/14 so far.

I'll arrange something for those who do not want to do it themselves if needs be.

Hope this clears things up. Motion is glued to the pocket on the plate's top side, the strap passes in between, the bottom pockets of the plate fit on the bike support.
