But today the lake level came up 20cm, the air was stinky, the weed was draggy, and the mud was slimy, there was no wind, it was too hot, the Pub was full of 4WD'ers and there was nothing to do in this town but drink Coffee and talk about better times.

Sure, go ahead, come at your own risk despite my best warnings, Just understand that winging and bitching about mud, stink, weed, water levels, Swan poo, infections, not enough wind, too much wind, not having the right fin, sail or board, lack of balls, exhaustion, illness, overcrowding and pretty much anything else you powder puffs can come up with will absolutely not be tolerated!

No Whinging!!

You have been warned!

For the real windsurfers amongst us, it's actually not too bad.

It was a rainy, overcast day with a straight South wind that varied up and down and didn't follow the forecasters script at all. I didn't go out until about 2pm, expecting the wind to build all day. That didn't happen. Just as we arrived, the sailors out looked very well powered up, and sure enough, Jimbob and Chris D come in and reported they were 'fully stacked' on 6.6m and 6.2m respectively. On that feedback I rigged my 5.8m. Unfortunately, that was good for only one run and then the wind backed off. I came in and rigged the 6.2m, but even that was not enough. Had a few runs. Floated around a bit in big lulls. Gave up.

The water up the the top end of the lake is really flat with just a few deeper spots having very small wavelets. The weed is just below the surface over large areas. Where the weed is on the surface it is very thick and hard to start without a good gust. Still better to have a better weedie 45 deg to 40 than any kind of Delta 50+

Hopefully, as the skies clear, the wind will become more thermal and more predictable.

Just bloody fantastic! 20-25 knots with a few slightly higher brief gusts.

Thre are a few rigging areas with good access back slightly closer to Beachport than the 5 mile.

Water level late this afternoon was at -0.171

But it had dropped around 10 cm during the day as the wind affected it.

The SSE-SE wind here is very laminar. You are fully powered with a size smaller than you may use at some more turbulent venues.

Jamie says that when wind is in the west, cycling is best
but a few years ago Artur and I sailed in a west and it was ok. But it's not possible to drive to Cokies for launching, it would require going to the spit or 3 mile. If your dates are flexible I would wait until another good week of SE

Would have to be really desperate to go on a west forecast, 9/10 times a strong westerly is frontal and blows through over night and all over by 9 o'clock,
always gusty But man up the top in front of duck shooters island would be way flat. West is offshore from where every one has been sailing last week so from packers point or the spit is the go too places.
?? Oh and it's ripping up the dunes on my dirt bike not cycling.

I would take Jamie's word for it, but if you really want to get around to Cockies, it is possible to drive there if you are up for a bit of adventure. I wouldn't do it if it raining though.

The forecast models are all in disagreement as well. Take your pick. Could be WSW at 30, gusting 44Knots, or at the other extreme, 5, gusting 10 knots.

I like the models at 13000m, blowing like nothing else, kites?

What months does sandy Point work? I'm looking for place on SA, Vic & east coast end March April start of may.

The problem here is that it can be any month, but the big fronts are more common in the spring. In the past, we have had regular 30 knot Easterlies in January and February, but not this year!

It looks like a possibility of a big front late Wednesday afternoon. Predicting these more than a week in advance is mostly impossible.
