Great videos thanks Daffy, I had thought the land around the lake was flatter, it is really interesting to see the places where the good posts come from.

A pleasure travelling with you Larko as always. I think that must be our 6th or 7th odd interstate windsurfing road trip. I think our friendship has to be a pretty good one to put up with each other in such a confined space for that amount of time!!
I also want to say a thanks to all we met, sailed and socialised with and a special mention to all the boys from the Illawarra Speedsters who made me, Larko and Dave so welcome. I have just finished showing my boys their pick and talking up our incredible sport in that we can have 68 year olds showing up 28 year olds!!! But then we can't forget that 68 year olds can get lost on a dry lake bed trying to find Cockies. But we won't mention who that might be hey Terry
Can't wait to come back in 2016 to try and grab that elusive 40knots peak. I just don't want it to be 'handed from Mother Nature' though so I better hope the conditions are a bit tougher than they were this year
Good luck to all the remaining guys there and to the new ones rocking up over the next few weeks

So I'm not the only one to get lost??
Twice...

Here is one for you sboardcrazy! Watch past 1 minute.

This is the famous LG fin mud drag at the 5mile launch. There is 100mm of water here and 400mm plus of really soft mud under it! The technique is the drag the fin through the mud as it's a lot harder to plod through dragging your gear. Hopefully when you get out into fin deep water, the mud clears your fin and you sail away. Unfortunately for Glynn, he seems to have caught some weed out further.

Some guys were using a very small Delta or similar fin to get out from Cockies and then stopping and changing to a much larger fin for the rest of their sail and doing the opposite on the way in.
Seemed the best way was to sail into Cockies until you reckoned it was getting iffy, hop out of the straps and harness, keep planing until you ran completely aground and when you hopped off it was only a short walk in ankle deep mud. Sweet. Do the opposite on the way out. mud at 5 Mile was horrid.

Here is some Feb LG footage from the riders point of view. Same gear (7.1 KA Race + Falcon 51 + 23 Vector Speed Weed), different runs.

Firstly, here is the flat water run at 5Mile Drift. Gusty on the run up there as you can tell from my stance and sail positioning, but nice flat water on the run.

Here is the run at Cockies. Very consistent and stronger wind but bumpier water:

The last 50 meter to the beach at the 5Mile launch is currently 10-15cm of water over 40cm of really soft gooey mud. The idea is to drive the fin through the mud until you can step off on to the bank. That way you don't have to wade through knee deep stick mud. Here I almost make it to dry land.

Well what an amazing speedsailing spot Lake George turned out to be , both Maree and My self learnt so much about sailing here and making the most of the conditions to enjoy ourselfs and iam sure if we get back next year will be so easy to get the most of the area once you learn where to go and what side of the lake to work for the best results , personally the mud wasnt that bad as long as you didnt spend much time in it or had any cuts which can cause problems if not treated properly , all in all we meet great sailboarders from all over and had a great time , the locals so friendly and helped so much , we will be back for sure and looking forward to our next time there.
