Is it possible to sail a little less rakes fins at higher levels? If so, you could get more lift and potentially compensate for the higher waves? Or is this a dumb question and there is a shifting point from the glass like situation to high waves. Where we sail grass only covers the bottom and you can ride up to 40cm PWA slalomfins in summer, but still chop goes down substantially compared to the non grass situation in winter and spring. Just curious and I would love to read more on the way Lake George works.
Yes, when the water is a bit above the weed there is no need for extreme rake fins and it is a litle bit more efficient.
Some parts of the lake are deeper and if there is more than 20-30 cm over the weed it gets a bit too choppy there for fast speed runs and safety at speed downwind, Still OK crosswind. Early season last year I rode 30-40 rake find exclusively and they were fine for me. very late season when the water had dropped a lot more, the weed became much thicker on the surface, and even with a 50 rake fin was I feeling the drag.
