Woowh, I am surprised how your authority in that matter could effect outcome. Your post is green thumbed and I was covered totally in red ,
when I did say about this same on our local forum.
My post was in the context of bringing more youth to the sport.
Local clubs opt for this all wind sailing coffins and I did suggest new , quick, light sporty equipment as we all use.
BTW based on my own experience when youngsters managed to master short board in no time at all, but it took ages for me.


Your not referring to the time you accused me of torturing my own children for encouraging them to sail techno are you.

hey Eric,

the mystery board is not a Tiga Race, it does not have the contoured deck of the Tiga (I used to have one of those too)

the board with the fin is my A390.

chines; I mean the shape of the board at the back of the DB2,
the bottom of the DB2 is not exactly round at the back. for the last metre or so it has four flatter surfaces that make up the curved bottom and a distinct edge between those surfaces.
mine is not like that, I will send you a photo.

Okay so the one on top is your Lechner
The one on the ground, next to the Mistral is the mystery board..
This stern...Could it be a Crit 650? Seem very flat, no volume...too bright, can't see very well.

Chines: Got it...the convexe flats on the hull, typical from DB2s/3

I just purchased an original M1 from a lovely bloke up in Toronto, it is from 79/80. If anyone has any info on centre boards and mast base could they please let me know cheers.

The first production M1 made in 1981 , but thats a detail ;-)

First production made in 1981...and still alive for a couple of them.

D2s will make their big return to International scene next summer in Brest , Brittany, France.
1st European Championship since decades...D2 boards will be available to charter.

For those of you in Europe at this time, don't miss that opportunity!

I've got a Lechner up here on Hamilton Island, used it in twilight races against the yachts around the island with a wally sail,
very fast, and would out point most yachts and would leave boat sailors bewildered at how a windsurfer could beat them in light winds.
I bought the board of Andrew {Ronald} Regan when l moved to the island 16 years ago and it is still in good condition.
I love the consistent railing to windward and the challenge of sailing down wind.

Yeah It would be good to have a division for D2 at Brisbane Worlds as l don't have a Raceboard unfortunately but would love to be part of the event.

I just measured it at about 0.3mm.
it is what sailmakers refer to as pattern mylar and mine is scrap I got from a sailmaker.
I have always used contact cement without a problem, sand it first for grip.

what mistral are you repairing?,
the mylar works well on the lechner because there is no recess for a gasket and the mylar can be glued directly to the bottom of the board.
the lechner originally had a L-shaped rubber extrusion that pressed into a slot you can see in the photo under the mylar.

the mylar works well on a D2 but probably not ideal if your mistral is a faster equipe/imco etc.

Equipe carbon. There is a recess where the old gasket was. I have a few old non repairable sails, is it the same Mylar? maybe thinner? Silicon to make it all flush?

its different to mylar used in sails, much thicker and stiffer.

some equipes, the XR's I think, had a gasket similar to todays boards, single piece of urethane or similar glued in a recess.
you can buy similar gaskets to suit from USA, lessor equips and pre-2000 one designs had a hinged gasket that snapped closed.

......I just recalled you posted a photo of your equipe elsewhere, its the newer 258 litre equipe 2?
I think this has the gasket much like todays Phantoms, Konas etc.

should be easy to get replacement gasket kit, Tinho at Calema Windsurfing Florida used to sell them, or Windpower in Wisconsin still lists them.

I think Tinho recommended Hot Stuff Super T for a glue.

the board you posted looks great, its worth getting the proper gasket for it.

like I said, the mylar is fine on the D2 and was fairly common years ago on these boards but I don't recalling seeing it used successfully on raceboards.

Windsurfnsnow has a modern type thick urethane (?) gasket in stock. If it's the right size it could be easier and cheaper than importing one from the US.

Of interest for your Lechner Doug, I've been in touch with Georg Lechner and he has sent me some original a390 gaskets. Not sure how many he has.

I raced a Div2 Orbit in the UK back in the 1980/90's. I'm thinking of getting back on one, would love to find my old Orbit.But a another type of Div2 would be lovely if some one knows of a board in the uk. I don't mind what condition its in. Thanks Piers Ballard.

Dave, if you try the mylar and it doesn't work, I have a spare polyurethane gasket to trade.
The PE gasket does a great job of sealing the centrecase however it makes it difficult to operate the c/b.

in 2016 I replaced the gasket on my MEQ2/Mistral Equipe 2 XR carbon

I FINALLY purchased the proper gasket from www.windpowerwindsurfing.com/
used a marine epoxy to glue it to the board
like the board so much with no center board/dagger that I never cut it !! @ least not yet
