there is a similar method for getting 4 days of use out of a pair of undies. forwards, backwards, inside-out forwards, inside-out backwards

Ive got nothing to say (as you can see) other than thanks for the quote from Josh, Leech. Im gonna give that a go. So do you think I should get rid of the 20's and try some 26's?

been trying to ween myself off the short lines. started with 20's then fluctuated between 20 and 22 . now on 24's

one thing i noticed is that my arms did more work and got pumped up when i changed to the 24's

tried 26's on a mates rig and they just felt gumby.

i have my boom at the very top of the luff cut out as i'm 6'5 and it didnt feel like the harness was doing any thing.

my opinion is that its all relative to your height and length of arms, so you just have to play around with the combo till you find something that works.

as for seat harnesses go i had one when i was learning, then i saw one of the top local guys with a wastie and figured he must know better so went out and bought one. found it much easier and my learing curve improved dramatically.

i got a Buddy Love harness ...good fit..i think!

i'm gonna try 24" and a tad higher boom to kick off with, and maybe try on a mellowish day to kick off with instead of a screamin winter front!!!!

I said in an earlier post that I'm running 26's. That's only partly true. I have adjustable lines and most of the time I run them at 26". Before I got the adjustables I had 28's and I found them to be "gumby" too. I like to position my harness line ends within 1-2inches of each other and they were just too long for my arms. Kauli must be a gorilla!

What I love about the adjustables is that when I'm underpowered I leave them nice and long - keeps the sail more upright for more power. If I start to get overpowered I shorten them up an inch or two to reduce the efficency of the sail. Not 100% sure why this is but it works a treat!

Recommended.

Tried it today. F###IN LOVED IT.

It took me about 3 seconds to get used to it

why did i leave it so long seat harness off to the bin.

also trying out a new board, fin, boom and sail pushed the windgasm factor to 9.5

to good 2 be true, what the devil is going on

for the length of my lines i held the boom and measured them out to my elbow (hooked around). Is this about right? Only one of my sets is adjustable and the other 3 booms have non adjustable ones so i adjust the by moving them closer together or further apart.

switched from 20 to 22 today in gusty w - wsw on my big sail 5.8 and found it a lot more forgiving in the gusts as well as keeping more power in the lulls. tempted to try 24 now

it's eazy, if you sail small sails, 6.2m and down use a waist harnesss if you only run big sails, a seat will be better for controling the power, most people run 24 inch lines for waist harness's or taller guys use 26 inch lines. stand more upright when you sail, you'll have to get used leaning against your waist and not stick your ass out anymore... i generally think seat harnesses are for old guys who just want to sit there and cruz around.. and anyone wanting to be able to move there legs uses a waist..

Harness line lengths seem to be getting longer for a lot of crew. I'm running 26", but that's considered pretty short now. Will start getting onto 28"s soon. Benefits seem to be mainly increased control, and also a little less chance of accidentally hooking in.

Measured up a lot of people's harness lines in GC last week as there was a discussion on how different brands measure the length, and it was interesting to see that there weren't many people on anything shorter than 30". A lot of guys running 36" for the real windy stuff.

Ben, I would have thought that there's a limit to how long you could go before you are unable to reach the boom while still hooked in. For me that's 30" with the ends nice and close together.

I think wave riders tend to be having their booms even higher now and hang from the boom more, and so can have longer lines. Not sure if its my imagination, but it seems the boom cutout has risen in the last few years to reflect this.

I've got short arms, so can't see myself going any longer than 28's. I run my boom a lot lower than most of the wave guys now. Scotty also has his boom pretty low. And I reckon this is why we are on shorter lines than a lot of the other guys.
But a year ago I was still on 24's, and I can remember being on 20's quite a few years before that so it does seem like there's some sort of progression to longer harness lines.

Are you putting higher/longer cut-outs in your sails?

Yeah, boom cutouts have moved up 100mm on most sails over the last couple of seasons, and are longer as well.
And we still get people saying they'd like the boom higher.
Maybe everyone is getting taller??

You know the best thing is to alternate ,the use of a harness, although im talking waist harness here. Its all in how much you want to vary comfort on the back.Support is important as is the buckles on the things, nothing worse than them riding up through out a session and or it slipping to a point where you are lossing drive from your rig, and your arms are two extended. Dont sudscribe to having the harness lines together ,dosnt give your self room to slide on your lines. The other factor is how much the the bar can move ,and or your body can rotate with in the harness. So this brings me to the point Harness hook up or down i might post this intrested to here ones opinions.

HOLD HANDS STRAIGHT FROM YOUR SHOULDERS AS PER HOLDING YA BOOM ...NOW STICK YOUR TWO THUMBS INWARDS ..PUT THEM RIGHT OVER THE KNUCKLE/NAIL ...AND DA JODS DONE....

lengh will depend on the size of your Horn....i mean the size of your hook......If your lines are to long dats no good... to short dats no good also.

There's no consensus on harness line length...I like 22" for my waist harness. Experimenting is the way to go. It only took 2-3 sessions to get used to. About four years ago I gave away my seat harness...I still preferred it for race sails and cammed sails, but I no longer sail either any more.
