I have to say that I think windsurfers are much better people than kiters who seem like wake boarders who have a lot of massive posers in their sport. You can tell a lot about a sport by all the videos and marketing, some surfing videos are all wnk these days too. I guess you get posers in every sport though, they get sucked in by all the advertising bling and try to act like pro's.

Windsurfers are good people.

Kiters can't help the way they are. It's just how they're brought up!

Oh Boy.
There's a very similar thread going on at the moment, (is windsurfing good) I'm afraid it just degenerates into a slanging match between kiters and windsurfers.

Think you have to make your own mind up on this, get lessons in both and see what appeals the most.

The most accurate reply so far...

After reading this (long/negative) post, Smellyskater (or any newbie) would be turned off both sports...

C'mon guys, stick to what you each enjoy, and leave the mudslinging out of it! We're all enjoying the wind/water and the lifestyle that this country offers, we should be grateful that we have the opportunities and choices we have.

Threads like this constantly make a mockery of both (individual) sports.

Nothing is serious here though, we all know smellyskater is a fake. If you read between the lines, we are all just taking the p1ss out of each other. Each to their own... Windsurfing is an awesome sport, so is kitesurfing. A lot of us are windsurfers too!

At the end of the day we have nothing but love for each other

Soccer or rugby? Tennis or golf? Playboy or Penthouse? How did any of us get drawn into a "which is better?" discussion? I've noticed that kiters seem to be having fun, which is the main point of any recreational activity.

I thought the main beef with kiting was how kiters so often get in everyone's way, ignore right-of-way rules, take up the whole beach with their gear, endanger others, and get windsports banned from certain spots. Not to mention the fact that they think they are so cool. These are legitimate things to rant about. Arguing over which sport is better is just pointless.

BTW I think we should rename kitesurfing; something like "boatless paragliding" "para semi-surfing" or something. All those in favour??

You'd notice in one (or both) of these threads I've been pushing that idea quite heavily. It'll bring a sense of humility and honesty back to the sport!

Can't you guys get over this windsurfers vs kitesurfers thing?
They're both great.
A lot of us do both.
It's not a competition.
Just do what you love and let others get on with what they love.

The only people replying to this thread should be those who do both sports because they are the only ones who really know the differences.

I was going to do both, but I never got into kiting because I have a girlfriend. She won't let me wear yellow polka dot boardies over my wetsuit.
