Don't they use 2 layers because one layer as thick as 2 thins can't be bent into the mould.
The staples are what they use to hold it all in place before they put it in the mould.
Mark I think shooting the little fella that didn't wet out the glass properly is a bit strong, maybe we could get them to just with hold his daily bowl of rice(salary)for a few days, I'm sure that will pep up his concentration. Or maybe just Tazer him.

What mould??????
Maybe true on the top, (but 5mm airex is easy to do). Certainly not on the bottom.

at end of day both Starboard and JP seem to sell very well here in queensland, and the jp light build issues seemed to end after the barbed wire graphics versions. I personally like the lightweighted nose type boards, even if they are easily damaged - such as the fanatics and tabous. If you stick your foot in the front strap and lift the board off the ground without fin attached, and it hangs effortlessely horizontally, then all is good as far as I'm concerned (so long as no one has strapped lead to the fin box

Curac: it did sound like you were having a crack... (not the catapault thing I knew that was just a metaphor)..... you said brand bashing sh!ts you off. I was just saying I'm not brand bashing, it is fact that out of 10 new waveboards of different brands and same price there will be 3 or 4 that are a LOT LOT weaker. That is just not right, it is robbery on the part of some brands.

In the store you see a cutaway pic or exploded diagram of the board. I've never yet seen one that specifies "200gsm twill weave carbon" for example. They say there is a carbon layer or whatever.... and often it may be pretty damn thin!!! Likewise single sandwich. 3mm v.s 4mm is very very different.... it is 33% more material. Now for example if Holden told you there standard Commodore and the standard Falcon went down the quarter mile in the same time you'd be happy. If the Holden was 0.5sec faster and $2000 cheaper you'd buy it. Then you find out it uses 33% more fuel to do so......hmmmm.
Anyway I don't think researching the boards is the total solution because not all brands tell you the whole story. Check out the so called carbon board on eva's site (boardlady.com)

Decrep: yes he is a bit over the top, but I think his way is if you wnat to have 100% control over very very accurate rocker and vee. His measurement process is obsessive-compulsive!
BTW 2 x 3mm is stronger than 1x5mm I'll explain why I think so but not here it's too long

Yes, I can understand if building a lot of boards with the same rocker it might be worth making a rocker mould, or if you're after the last .5km/hr for a speed board. But a one off wave board, not worth it.

I'm sure 2 X 3 is stronger/stiffer than 1 X 5, I know the stiffness/thickness ratio isn't linear, but I think that could be compensated for by using carbon instead of glass.

If you're posting me direct, you might not get a reply for a while, we're off traveling

Yeah but he's not really making a mould.... just using the offcuts of styro (which were obtained by only cutting once and being careful) to lay the board on. I think it is clever at least and no extra work really

Yes.
(1) *board is good
(2) Wood is waste of $
(3) If you want a freestylewave then it implies you will not jump it more than 10ft prolly so a *board DRAM is plenty strong enuf (?)

But if u r after a FSW I think the RRD FSW may do it for u better.

I'm getting the hang of ths txtspeek huh
BTW **** off the word "txt"..... it is SMS which is "short message service, if you "text" somebody that could be writing a letter or email. Young 'uns take note...
