Looking for ideas to store windsurfing kit at home. Keen to see some people's setups and hopefully get some neat build ideas for my shed at home.

Show us ya shed!

Not really a shed but I have built a lot of racks to hoard all my boards (if I have more than two good boards on the floor of the garage then I try and sell one or it may get put out to pasture). The easiest to use seems to be a rack where the boards stand on end, but wide boards can stick out a bit so I would recommend angling the poles a bit.

I've always done the broomsticks poking out of wood, bolted to the wall, to have boards sitting horizontally on 'shelves'
Then I realised that you only need one bit of timber with broomsticks sticking out, if you stand boards up. But making the same contraption, if you move house you can use it in either orientation

Of course, I bet my damn pics rotate again lol

So - occy strap between pillars to stand sails up takes no space:

boards vertical with wood n broomsticks method:

which I like better than the old horizontal ones, but SUPS too long to stand up in the garage:

Standup rack attached to shaping room close to door is good though for easy moving in and out:

^photo spin can be prevented by reducing the physical photo size before posting.
Give it a lil trim n it'll fit right in.

Dunno how to edit on a phone, then put them on a 'puter with no photo editing software then load here. Its dumb, cos they are the right orientation in gallery so why not in forum (never used to be like that too)

Vertical integration to maximize the volumetric capacity of the environment. Boat winch to the left just above the harness raises and lowers the rack which slides on the two stainless rails running down each side of the shed post.

I have a lightweight futon frame hinged to a ceiling joist and suspended from a pulley at the front. Easy to winch up and down and shed space is not taken up with windsurfing gear because it's full of crap already

Here's the thing , it comes down to maths .
Lets say 250 mm is a good spacing with a pool noodle over the dowl , could go 220 with straps and still be smiling.
Thats what I have with a little to spare . Horizontal.
It depends on the amount of boards .
A 3m garage ceiling can hold 11 boards
If you have less than 11, standing up is better .
Standing up between dowls , at least 16 sails and 8 masts . 1 m wide .
A few booms hanging on 1 dowl.
A car length garage wall can hold a lot of stuff , no wider than your widest board.
Your welcome

Standing up you can close up the gap more because you only have to separate the noses and the straps do that job at the bottom. I've done the same in me van with the boards lying beside each other on their sides rather than stacked vertically. 16cm spacing.

Built a shed a few years ago, have 15 boards so wanted the most used 6 or 7 ones accessible, so welded bars at side of shed. Should I leave, then useful for next owner to store items.

I'm not tidy like you guys.
Have to compete with horse stuff and bags of chaff

Put soft mat stuff on floor so boards can sit on it. Changed to this way after seeing hire shop in Spain and realizing how much more gear can fit this way.

when we down sized I had to make racks. I considered going vertical, but I think horizontal is kinder on the gear, so ended up with this.
The board racks I salvaged from the old shed, just had to pin them to the wall.

Bugger missed the booms hanging up off to the left. The one you can see isn't used very often.
In case you are wondering, the sails are sitting in 150mm plastic pipe split down the middle.

And the timber on the floor, is a stop for the rear wheels of the wagon. There's only centimetres clearance front and rear with the masts on

You guys have some serious space. I loved Hardcarve1 and Decrepit setups. Very neat. All my stuff... sails, kites, a few boards, scuba gear and my personal clothes, even a couple of business suits (who needs them now) are crammed into an apartment closet. No one understands how it all fits but yes, I'm jealous of your space.

With the heat and high humidity in Florida I have always kept my boards inside the house, sails booms and masts in the garage.
