- There is a Friday night race series at Sandringham where anyone can turn up and race. It is free to enter and you can race on any gear you want. They generally get about 15-20 people out racing. They race in all weather from sub-10 knots to 20+. I suspect they would go out in 30+ if that was happening.

That's actually REALLY awesome. More of this kind of thing needs to happen across the country... also for windsurfing! NSW has had regular racing of some format happening nearly every weekend somewhere for many years now, would be great to push it elsewhere... Just needs motivated people to get involved.

Well if you do it like that..

Im sure the amount for people that race on twin tips, surfboards and race boards would still out way, the number of slalom, formula and RSX.

Im a sailboarder but sorry, the Fletch guys has a point.

I agree with that. What i was saying it if we talk about rs:x wich is a one design. Let's talk about the kite racing in his one design format. I don't even know if there is any race with one design kiteboarding gear in the world...

So I reckon even 3 windsurfers from a one design class a jsut better than no one design class at all.
And stop dreaming, if ISAF put the kiteboardracing at the olympics, they will ask for a onedesign at some times...

Is it possible to ban pumping?

Problem is with that 20kg board you won't get moving till about 14 knots. 14 knot wind minimum and you won't ever race... I did 2 years of Grade 1's / World's / Europeans in RSX and I probably did less than 3 individual races over 14 knots. It's a lightwind sport...

For lightweight people

See my post above. Most racing de facto one design because of the dominance of a couple of manufacturers.

Airush (the Starboard kiting partner at one time. don't know if they are still current) brought out a one design board and are promoting a one design race series. It does not seem to have gotten off the ground. Heaps of people are buying the boards (because they're so much fun to ride) , but the races seem to be all-in affairs at the moment.

Mate, I agree with you.
But Close to one design is not one design:

"Most people ride North race boards (the green boards), followed by Cabrinha (Neil Pryde), then an assortment. The boards are almost all production boards (even among the top competitors at Sandringham). It is fairly close to one design. I believe the fins are where people get creative."

having to run a one design class is quite hard and there is always the risk that Isaf choose (for some economic or mostly political reason a crappy board with a stupid weight limit) like it happened for the RSX.

Neilpryde has recently done some good improvement for the rs:x gear (rig and board's weight) but it has been swiped off by ISAF for some reasons...

To sum up, we all agree that the RS:X board is crap but this could happened for the kiteracing gear as well if it was becoming olympic...

And people would say that there are people in the RS:one fleet than in the Olympic kite racing
