For some people those marginal conditions are the predominant conditions.
If I waited for those consistent +15 knots days I would rarely get out.
We almost always get some wind but usually not strong wind.

Only for less than 10 knots though as my formula board is great to sail when wind hits 10 knots.

It's the same kiter at Melville sometimes with his mate who plane nearly all the time in 5-10knots,the other kiters hardly move. Will ask him the specs of equip next time. They both STILL plane when the seabreeze has died and it turns Southerly to SE.

10 knots - windsurfers can plane
8 knots - lighter windsurfers can plane
5 knots - no windsurfer is planing - too light for even longboards - Serenity maybe ?
would suggest 7 knots is the minimum depending on the person

for a kite - he must be EXPERT to keep kite out of the water with what we saw in that video
once that kite goes in - then what ? swim time ??
sometimes kiters are luckier when the winds are a little higher

with my longboard or BIC Techno Formula i have gone out when the kiters came in
and that was typically around 10 knots

5 knots sounds impossible - have never seen a steady 5 knot breeze !!!
