Thats enough petrol on this fire.

What westhammer said hit the nail on the head (how ironically).

"Its not a sport, its a lifestyle"

We are all wind addicts and if windsurfing floats your boat then stick with it. I always thought that kitesurfing had its clear advantages over windsurfing and were trying to make my point.

Did I expect to convert any of you to kite: NO

Have I been converted to pole: No, but I have been educated on the other advantages of windsurfing that I had not considered before.

i don't understand this light wind argument. who wants to do any wind-based sport in less than 15 knots?

With respect, that's a silly question to be asking at this time of year.

formula sailing in 10-15 knots feels like slalom sailing in 20 knots.

I didn't windsurf in under 12-15 for years. Now I regret all that wasted time, and I'm having some great light air sails. Even glassy calm patches are beautiful.

And it's great to see some kiters who can respect the fact that other people have different tastes.

If I can plane I'm happy.

Jeezuss! 6 to 25 knots with one sail??!! Can this be true?

It is. But you probably don't want me to say it...

... ok, it was an 11m FW sail. The only thing I changed all day was the outhaul.

Sure, 25 knots is a handful on FW kit, but who could be bothered to rig a second sail on such a perfect day ;)

Good on you. I see people roll in with the trailer and a plethorra of equipment and sails, and they end up de-rigging and re-rigging all day.

I couldn't have handled a 11m sail on a FW in 25 knots though - no way. (170 pnds)

The price of oil does not have any impact on my time on the water.
Good for your morale and general well being.

Yep it's all about TOW!! I've been fortunate to be brought up in a family that sails & have learnt to enjoy all aspects from cruising with my dad, racing large yachts, to taking my 4 young kids for a sail in our 10' dinghy. Like Ratty said to moley, "There ain't nothing better than messing around in boats".

Windsurfing is my number one passion though whether playing in the waves in 25knots or blasting around on formula gear in 10-12knots no other sport comes close for all round enjoyment. It's always challenging to some degree whatever discipline you prefer, age or level you are at & the beer always tastes better after a day on the water!!

As for kiters, if it gets more people out on the water then that's cool just as long as they respect everyone else out there & Huey. Being such a new high profile sport it does attract people who haven't got any experience on the water or sailing & some of these newcomers ignore advise to get lessons etc. get into trouble & give the sport a bad rap. One of my good mates has taken up kiting & for me that's great, as sharing the experience of blasting around out on the water with a close friend or family is what it's all about. Otherwise he'd be on the beach with the rest of my mates who don't sail being blasted by sand wondering what the big deal is..

Jet skis are only good for two things, lifesaving & tow in surfing...I hope never to see those two words on this forum again..

I hate windsurfing !!!! I only do it every chance I get, to pick up chicks ! (apparently they dig a boardshortless man in a wetsuit) I much prefer fiddling with my short wave radio or observing my ant farm............Two weeks, no wind, my mind is starting to decay......
