you must have pretty stupid kids on your beach.....

Fin up also makes it un inviting to those pesky kiters wanting to dump their blow up doodad on the windsurfin beach.

Correct, also take your gear to n from your vehicle without the sail and board bag its uncool to do this, and a waste of time

When it is very windy and the board starts to dance in above position just kick sand up and along the rail. This stops the wind getting under it and deflects air flow up n over the board n rig. Sand will also end up accumulating on the foot of the sail which will also hold it down otherwise just kick it on there as well.

Lifes short and sails are meant to get wet and sandy, you really only need to wash them every once in while when conditions get like this below. Otherwise just take them straight from the water minus sand, drain/dry em' a bit, roll em up.

And yes some of these rigs are pointing into the 50 plus SW wind, put enough sand down and it will be fine '88 SandyPt

What an amazing pic! Geez, the joint looks different now. Nowhere near as much width to the beach at low tide? (correct me if I'm wrong) Still an incredible place to sail. Always a highlight of my year.

My routine. Never leave the sail on the beach unattended. I wash it off in the sea water and take it up to my van which is usually a little out of the wind. If I can't tie it off to a tree with the uphaul then I'll put my harness around the up haul rope (rope secured to base) with clew facing down wind. This keeps it fairly secure unless it really exposed, in which case I'll derig. I towel dry the sail well and roll it up. Only use fresh water when I know it'll have plenty of drying time.

board is on beach pointing into wind with fin slightly dug in. I hate the last bit as I don't like my fine foil slalom fins being jammed into the sand. :). Same routine for board, wash in sea water then towel dry but leave the board bag open at home, I have some old gear and it's all in very good condition.

Salt isn't sand paper. Wet salt isn't wet and dry sand paper.

Yes, it helps keeping kids away and kiters don't like it either, fins up always.

Amirite, Waiting4winds method is actually pretty normal for peeps who look after their gear.

How about rolling the sail?
I roll it tip facing direct downwind, rolling at my hip hight, helps me to keep the roll tight because wind is keeping pressure but gets my arms tired near the end.

If I'm sailing somewhere sandy I sometimes derig in the water to keep the sand off the sail. If needed the boards gets rinsed then into the boardbag to get home.
Out of the bag , vent undone and in the open to dry both then board gets put away in the bag.
I try and keep everything in great nic for resale.
