Hi everyone, Saturday looks like we might get some wind. Where do you reckon the place to be is? North Kirra sounds good...but im not sure about my skills, i have been sailing for years and have been out in the sea only a handful of times, can get in the odd jibe in a session.

Problem is i havent been out in the sea for over a year, only recently bought myself some new kit and got back into sailing (my old board exploded in the sun How do you reckon Kirra will be?

Im game if the surf isnt to big and there are a couple of other sailors out. If you think im an idiot let me know and ill stick to the flat water.

Hi Hal9000,

Kirra should be OK, I was out there today and it was great! Here's a picture of what it was like at about 3pm:
www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=2690

I'll be there about 12 midday, introduce yourself to anyone who's there and we'll keep an eye on you. The most important skill to have is a good waterstart, if you're struggling to waterstart in flat water you've got no hope in waves. If you can get up easily then you'll be fine.

Meet in the carpark just to the north of the North Kirra Surf Life Saving Club, see you tomorrow!

Yeah it was fun at Kirra.
don't tell the physio but I had to give it a go after a three and a half week chill after MCL knee injury. So good to be on the water again.Turned flukey later and this is more strain than with good wind.
Sat should be great.I think I will leave the strapping on!!

Hey Rustle,

For someone who's been off the water for a month you were ripping it up! Gybe after gybe, very nice

I know how you feel, my MCL is fine now but the four weeks I was out of action for would have to be the most painful month in my life...

i often though the same thing about the south side myself but for some reason it's not the same as the alley on a southerly just in reverse.

What ever happened to Cudgen beach on a northerly? Everyone seemed to be getting overly excited about it 12 months ago? Does anyone still go there?

Water starts are the thing im best at with windsurfing...can always get up and fast...probably cos i fall off ALL the time. Im hoping to fix that at some stage.

Seabreeze keeps making the wind look worse with every update. Do you guys still think it will be good tomorrow? I was SO excited when i saw a whole saturday of green arrows on thursday

HAL9000 if you can waterstart efficiently you are right to take on the ocean, it really does seem easier to waterstart in the ocean than flatwater , I guess due to the swell helps get the sail out of the water.

Fingers crossed for tommorrow.

Hi Hal9000,

Wind should be around 15 knots tomorrow. Anything between 5.5 to 6.3 ish will be fine.

Onshore is OK at Kirra because there's a channel there that doesn't have any breaking waves in it, just blast back and forth in the channel and you'll have a great time

I'll be there tomorrow so if you turn up say hi

When the wind's up, the sun's shining, and I've finished some jobs around the house... probably between 11 and 12.

Hey Gestalt,

if rigging up, carting gear to the beach, standing around for half an hour, launching a kite, dragging gear into swell, getting smashed by swell, trying to waterstart but not enough wind, return to shore, repeat 2 times counts as "getting out" then the answer is yes

Tomorrow should be good though

yep gestalt, bit hit and miss, i was out by myself for a while, fully powered up at the alley, 1 hour later as the local crew turned up, we were all out there frustrated as hell with a gusty 10-15 knots that was not much fun, great northerly swell, was awesome while i had the wind !

Just had a look at the coolangatta wind map, I think I was hitting the wind between 11 and 12, that was the peak for the day.

a brissy guy made a few runs south of the rock around 3pm and seemed to be getting some wind, but the rest of us had packed it in, with the exception of HAL9000 who was getting some pointers in beach take offs.

Fingers double crossed for sunday!

we a good day at wello,

had 14-18 knots NE most of the day. a few periods of 10 knots. didn't get the forecast NW. was a funny day with guys sailing 8m sails down to 5.3 sails. everyone planned though.

i took the slalom board out for the first time with my 7.4 had a blast. crashed a lot of gybes though. was powered up all day.

wind seemed to loose it's consistency in the arvo. oh yeah, heaps of jellies in the water. everyone got stung. bloody hot day, i look like a tomato.

hope tomorrow the SE forecast happens for everyone.
