Just returned from our annual trip to Geraldton, only this time we went via the Karajini and Exmouth.
Arrived at Yardie Creek Homestead 9/10 met a Pommie couple who had already been there a month. They said they could have sailed almost every day, but had taken a few days off because of exhaustion. We stayed until the 16th and also could have sailed every day,(3.7 - 5.3 sails), but spent one arvo watching 4 guys at the bombie, trying to convince myself to go out. (lots of sea urchins and I'd forgotten my booties), not to mention the huge wind shadow on the inside and a mega swim if anything went wrong.
Yardie Creek looks like a great wave thru the binoculars but it's at least 2 kms out. We were told the graveyard is also a good wave sailing spot, but the day we went out was apparently the worst for a month!
Loved sailing Sandy Bay, very flat clear water, lots of turtle's etc.
In fact Exmouth is worth a visit without the fantastic sailing, plenty of wildlife, and great snorkelling

I've posted the pics here, http://www.ccmhosting.com.au/mike/

Bummer Langy, would have been nice to catch up with you.
Yeh stayed in T. Price, thought we could stay in an onsite cabin at the caravan pk, but they were full, (suprised us the number of tourists still there that late). Ended up at the motel in the workers dongas.

i reckon the local will be stoked with your holiday photos being posted on the net.
Look what has happened to Gnarloo and Coro's since the first innocent photos were printed.
Show your photo's to friends not strangers.
These rare places are special enjoy them with your mates not the rest of the world or may be you enjoy sailing with 100 guys out if thats the case stay at coros with your camera.
Please think of the consequences of exposing places theres not many left

Gazza,
sure it makes it more public, but what is so bad about that. it means people get out and travel a bit, learn some new tricks and help the local economy of where they go. stop being so ignorant and narrow minded and think of the greater good that will occur from this.

Life is but a dream, from which we all must wake.

In theory it would helps thing. Say there are X windsurfers in WA. If there are only a few spots they will become concentrated with people, the more places the more diluted it will become. Not everyone is going to go to exmouth, some people are happy with lano etc. I think we should tell everyone about great places

only X windsurfers in WA but 1000X in the world, sailors will travel anywhere for a good sail. can u hold off mentioning the name of the spots for say about another 20 years, when I'll be too old to sail there.

I appreciate Gazza's point, I don't like good pics of my home break published either.
I did have a bit of a think before putting the photos up, so the only site it's visible from is this one.
There were already 2 easternstaters and 3 europeans there, so it's not that secret!
And notice Gazza says "the local" that's correct, we only met one and he was looking for somebody to keep him company!
Should we have a vote on this???
I don't mind taking them off if that's the general consensus, (now you've all seen them anyway"

It's always a balance between sharing knowledge, growing the sport, building community, and not wrecking things by overcrowding breaks.

There's no one answer that will keep everyone happy.

I for one was glad you posted Decrep, but as you said, I also wouldn't want everyone in the world coming to our home break and over-crowding it, and wrecking it for us.

Everyone has to make a call, and do something about it. I am for growing the sport and sharing knowledge, however the cost I may pay for that is I get less waves at my home break. Nothing in life is cost free Bugger

However, I have been asked by more than one local to back off sharing info about our home break, and to some extent for good local community relations I will respect that.

I bet the Aboriginals were pretty pissed of after they showed Cook their favorite surf breaks as well.

Lets put it this way. We live in one fo the best places in the world to windsurf. We dont have to buy a ticket, find money for the cost for shipping gear over or buy gear here. Then there is accomodation, cars, fuel ............. the list goes on. Yer i know it can get annoying when a euro drops in on you, gets in your way........ but at the end of the day we have this place 24/7, the only have it for the time they are here.
The plus side is all the great bargins on gear when the euros leave :) and im sure everyone is greatful for that

nice pics Decrepit,
I planning to go up there early septembre, what do you mean by "lots of sea urchins and I'd forgotten my booties", Do you have to walk on reef to get out, or is just a confort thing I hate sailing with booties...

btw, just pop by Dutchies..it is pretty flat, hopefully the sea's gone pick up a bit...
maybe artificial reef...

The bombie doesn't really have a beach to launch from, it can be done if you're very carefull, but coming back in is the tricky part, hit the reef with your fin, and you could jump off on an urchin. The other spots aren't as bad, you go over reef but it's in deeper water.

I think we'll be up there again this year, (my wife is very keen, she just loves sandy point) probably mid to late October.

Now what's all this about Dutchies??????

Drove by Leighton this arvo about 3 didn't see much action.
Had a sail here when I got back, nothing special, but I had to get in the water.
