In another thread was the discussion of boom grip... this is of boom-grip glue...

I have re-gripped deck-pads and booms, using the "apply QuikGrip, wait, stick, leave for 24hrs".

Booms in particular suffer from degripping... I think probably due to a twisting moment applied by our hands.

I'm not so convinced of QuikGrip... seems that I get about a half-dozen sails out of it, before the glue disintegrates.

Looking further into it, it seems that QuikGrip (and clones) dont actually like being in/near water... as dont most glues... they dissolve.. funny that!

Can anybody suggest alternative glues?

that explains alot. All my booms bar one old NP (with twistlocks) all seem to shed their grip within half a season and as much as i quick grip it back on, it peels off withing a couple of sessions.

So yes what is the correct glue to use??

Most boom manufacturers seem to use Clag these days.

Use a good quality contact adhesive (non water based)

From my experience, for some reason different coulors stick better than others, black seems the best & red the worst.

Humidity can affect the glue also so try & do it on a dry day.
Unfortunately most booms are made in humid places so if the aircon is broken that day you get crappy adhesion

I have used quick grip for years up north on working on farms, in the old days. You have to use the Solvent based not the water based one:

This one is Heat and Water proof. Apply to both surfaces wait 30mins and press together. Always worked for me, although never tried it on booms.

+1

I have used this stuff on deck pads of SUP and works a treat. Just make sure both surfaces are relatively clean before you apply.
