I had a Bombora Astro Toy in epoxy from Mctavish back in the day. The old stepped bottom one, the foam didn't go all the way to the nose and it was very light for its day. Pretty sure its landfill at Kimbriki tip.

I had the plastic version. I think they cut the fin out of an ice-cream container.

My first waveboard was a New Toy. Then I got a Mike Davis glass board and a few years later had a brief go on a New Toy and couldn't believe how bad it was. I hadn't noticed a big difference when I got the Mike Davis, just when going back to the New Toy. I remember thinking the only way I would have been able to do a decent bottom turn was if the wave was fully smooth. Yet I knew that I had been able to turn it reasonably when I owned one.

I still have two New Toys, they haven't been touched for 28 years. Just the boards - no fins or footstraps, I think even the mast track inserts are gone. If anyone wants one to make it sailable, they're welcome to one of them, as long as I get to have a go of it!

Ah the memories.....

Started on a wally and soon followed it with a bombora trifin, there wasn't many production short boards around at the time but a few of the local surf board companies such as Trigger Bros and Strapper were having a go at custom built boards. By the time I finished with the trifin, a new toy and a proto, Starpper had really nailed their board building including leading the way in vacuum bagging and epoxy.

I remember the astro toy, with those steps, being quite nice through the gybes in chop... or am I mistaken? It was a long time ago.

I had a three board quiver back in the day that comprised a One Design, Bombora Trifin and Bombora New Toy - had the lot covered! The New Toy in action on the River Derwent! It was a great board!!
