Nice work , looks great , sexy even .,
What kind of grip are you thinking ?

Im going to experiment with the acrylic powder and clear polyurethane at different mixes a few more times and if I can't get satisfactory results with that I'll just do the tried and tested epoxy and sugar. The only reason I'm holding off on that is that it yellows a bit over time and it usually works too well, although there's nothing stopping me from giving it a light sand when cured to tone it down a little. The first time I ever did it I made the mistake of using raw sugar and the board was covered in tiny volcanoes it was like standing on 1000 tiny barnacles.

Wow that turned out red . I wanted a bit less tint , oh well , too late now . This amount of red should make it faster
Ill leave it natural on the bottom .
One layer 4 oz glass all over , carbon innegra under feet and over mast box and fin box . !2 oz glass mini patches over foot plugs .
There will be another 4 oz layer all over and another from in front of mast track back .
Bottom will have two layers 4 oz .

At least you can still see Fat Kat

Yeah , I know what you guys are saying .
Your being polite,
Its fkn ugly .
Wait for the pale blue foot pads , that will take it to the next level.
I will enter it into the ugliest board comp , and win .

Compared to the carbon sand through look on many race boards, it looks like a custom show car.

Well done, sir. It's been a joy to watch this build progress. I hope it brings you as much enjoyment on the water.

Even uglier . The edges look grey in the pic but its really a blue green rotting color , like the mold on an orange .
A bit more glass on top and thats it for glass .
Then a thin bog coat that will end up a smokey clear . Its strange , when you mix qcell with clear resin it turns white but when sanded and clear applied over the top it almost goes clear . A slightly smokey swirly effect . Which will nicely add to the ugly approach .
My last board looked like a psychedelic oyster , this one will look like a bleeding psychedelic oyster .

Last of the top glass done and bogged . Bottom will get bogged next .

Total top layup from core;
3 cm wide strip 4oz glass along stringer
4oz glass patch around fin box area.
4oz glass all over blank.
3mm divinycell core. 3mm HD EVA core on rails .
4oz glass all over.
Mini 12 oz glass patches over strap plugs .
carbon , innegra patches over fin and mast boxes , nose and under heels.
6oz glass over mast box , under heels , under foot pad area .
4oz glass from in front of mast box back.
4oz glass all over top.

Should be strong enough.

^^ Keep up the OYSTER colour collection mate.Fits perfectly for the area you sail. Sandstone has a long history of oyster farming.

EVA foam ?
Isn't that gym mat stuff, soft and spongy ?
What is the difference between that and divinycell ?

The EVA foam I use is quite hard , same as hard boom grip ,( not the soft stuff North use ).
Divinycell is much lighter and harder .

Bottom is simple , 10 mm V at front to 5 mm V at back. Flat rocker from tail for 1300 mm. Sharp square rails to midway to 10 mm tuck at front .
What you don't see is a LOT of cupboard space . Keeps the bench clean and dust off everything , except the wife's car , that cops it !

What's the advantage of using EVA on the rails ?
Do you still glass over it ?

The EVA has two reasons ,
1 , it's easy to bend around the edges,
2 , it makes a really tough ding resistant edge.
Yes I glass over it .

Imax is onto something here. The EVA n softer resin he uses allows a lil flex n lessens accidental cracks around rails from general bumps n bangs.

Bottom is finished , will be a 600 grit dusty finish .( red splotch in the middle is a reflection ).

Taped off for outer resin . Inside will be sugar coat grip .

Top gloss finished . It will be buffed glossy .
9.7 kg at this stage. Add another 300gm for deck grip and pads , Should be around 10kg finished .

Matt polish finish is um finished .
Taped off for sugar coat grip .
If i had a brain i would have put the logo a bit higher , instead of half under the grip . So i did some creative taping around the logo so it can be seen ..
Thin layer of resin rolled on .

Thats 1.5 kg of sugar piled on top. Done outside cos of ants . two thirds caster , one third normal sugar .

Most blown off with compressor leaving nice even coverage .
The white patches is not sugar but qcell bog .

The board is now finished apart from cleaning out mast and fin box openings. And foot pads . The grip area will become darker when the sugar is washed off .

was curious do you sand back the area where the pads go or leave it grippy?
